I would like to transfer a few shows stored on my DVR onto my PC. My current setup is below:
TV (far away from PC)...
R/W "audio in" cables go from TV into DVR player "audio out"
"HDMI in" jack on TV goes into DVR player "DVI-D out"
Cord goes from DVR player into cable outlet in wall.
R/W/Y cables go from TV "video in" to DVD player "video out"
So, my picture comes into the DVR, feeds picture into the TV via the HDMI cable and audio through the R/W. My DVD player receives service through the TV (technically through the DVR). (Okay, I think it works this way; I have difficulty understanding electronics).
So, onto my computer.
I have a Gateway Media Center. A DVD/VCR combo is hooked up via R/W/Y cables (from "DVD/VCR "out") into a Dazzle device and an S-Cable runs from the player into my CPU. My CPU feeds directly into a cable outlet in the wall.
I have a host of video programs on my computer in anticipation of a lot of video editing (some I've already started) including Pinnacle (I have, in the past, recorded video from the DVD player directly into Pinnacle), Windows Media Center, WM Player and a few others that don't really matter here (like Media Converter, Nero, etc).
SO. Help out a not-so-electronically-literate person here (yes, I am female....why couldn't our genes include this type of thing?) Is there something I can do with all of these hookups to get my DVR programs to my computer (if I can get them to play through the VCR into Pinnacle I could record them within the program).
Are there any other data ports on your DVR? Like usb or enternet that can transfer your files directly to your computer? If you don't have any data ports, and you don't have any video out (rca plugs yellow one) you might need some sort of adapter to connect your HDMI out to your pinnacle video-in. And it would be very slow to transfer your videos over in realtime.
Since you have the mediapc, it would probably be better to bypass the pinacle box and just record it through the computer tuner card video in.
From your setup it looks like you have too many items, your mediapc can replace the dvd player/dvr/pinnacle usb adapter. On my mediapc I have 3 tuner cards (pvr150)installed(record 3 shows in the background) and watch a DVD movie at the same time. My mediapc (sagetv)replaced my VCR and stays on 24/7.
As far as editing my tv recordings, I only use videredotvsuite to remove commercials etc. It edits without reencoding and it has the capability of editing video recorded from dvr's. It's alot quicker than pinnacle.

Yes, but like most DVR boxes, the output is disabled.
