Replacing 360 hdd from 20g to larger

Is is possible to change/swap 20g hdd with much larger I.E 500G
I know it uses something like 2.5 or 3.5 hdd similar to what they use on laptops.
How do I transfer data from existing hdd to new? I must assume it must also be formated/set-up to work on 360 how is this done?
I've red some tutorial & it seems that only certian makes of hdd will work on 360 & each has their own way of being formated to work on 360.

I think the max size that the Xbox 360 recognizes is 120GB. But I do know that you can upgrade the Xbox 360 hard drive. You can either purchase one directly from Microsoft or use some laptop hard drive. Search youtube and this forum, and I am sure you will find some threads that will be of use to you.

Western Digital and Hitachi have hard drives that work on the Xbox 360.

yes the max it will see is the 120 gig that the elite comes with. and the drive you need is a western digital BEVS drive. and then you need the SS from a 120 gig MS drive, can be found anywhere on the net. there are several guides floating around on how to do this.

nobody knows... but really when compared to getting illegal copies of games and playing them this HD hack is nothing ...

when you use a laptop HD you aren't stealing from anyone...

i have never heard it identified as a reason for the waves of mass bannings ...
