okay, so i had the rrd problem, i opened it up and I'm having trouble taking the screws off. i tried turning it on again and now i get 2 lights. the shell is off but i still get the 2 light. any ideas on how to fix this?

2 red lights mean you are overheating it some how. Did you remove the x-clamps on the back? Because that would be the #1 cause for the 2 red. If your removing the x-clamps make sure you follow the proper tutorials for doing the x-clamp repair for 3 red lights

You use more of a thin pin looking object and pry them off. Follow this tutorial exactly. If you cut corners or think you don't need to do something you will just screw it up even more and you will get the RROD in a couple of days. This is the best tutorial out right now and it should answer all of your questions.

I use a desoldering pick to pry the xclamps off gently. The angled one makes it really easy and makes sure you don't damage the board.

OP it sounds like you moved your heatsink and the heat isn't transfering from the processor die to the heatsink. You have to clean off the processor and replace the thermal paste. I recommend to use this tutorial. You can order all the parts you need and you shouldn't have any problems, as i use this method religiously and have had a 100% success rate.
