Hi Everyone,

I've been reading for days now, and for me, there are so many threads on softmod, that I cannot find one with the latest up-to-date softmod TUT's ...

So I wanted to throw out my quick and dirty version here, for comments and corrections. I am strictly talking about installing the softmod on 3.4U , USA ...

1.) Install Twilight Hack (simple enough, Homebrew Channel is installed)
2.) Install "IOS16.wad" using the "Wad Manager" & restart the Wii
2a.) Or should I be using "IOS16-64-v257-prod.wad" instead?
3.) Install "IOS36-64-v1042.wad" using the "Wad Manager" and restart the Wii
3a.) Is 3.) fine, or do I have to use "cIOS36 rev8 Installer"? Are they not the exact same thing, just different ways to install that particular wad file?
5.) Start the "Wad Manager IOS16"
6.) Install "Wii Backup Launcher 03g Wiiish v2 EN.wad" (no restart)
7.) Install "GameCube Backup Launcher v0.1x.wad" (no restart) (which creates a Channel for Gamecube startups.)
7a.) Is this backup launcher fine, or should I install "RVL-mios-v8.wad" which I believe uses the same Backup Launcher as the Wii games ?
8.) Install "DVD Dump v1.2.wad" and restart the Wii ...

Complete ?

Hopefully this makes sense, and if so, I have a very good TUT done that I will post here, VERY easy step by step from start to finish.

I'm trying to incorporate in the latest versions, so I hope the above is correct, or someone can correct it for me. I'm still a bit hazy after all the reading, as you can likely see :)

Thanks all!

Dude, you are all over the place. First off this is the most up to date softmod guide

1) Couple things wrong here. The twilight hack never 'installs.' Instead it is a file that is copied to the memory and then run with the zelda game. Saying you install the twilight hack is like saying you installed a jpg file to your computer by copying it from your digital camera. Also, the twilight hack is only needed for installing the homebrew channel (note that this does install) and if you already have homebrew channel then theres no need to further use the twilight hack.

2/2a) They're the same thing.

3/3a) They are NOT the same thing. IOS36 is an official nintendo firmware patch. cIOS36 is a hack of that patch that lets you play backup disks. IOS36 cannot do that on its own.

5) Dunno what happened to 4 but moving right along. "Wad Manager IOS16" is a special version of the wad manager that is usually downloaded with IOS16. I've heard mixed reports, some say that you need it to install IOS16 on a 3.4 wii, others say that you dont. Either way, once IOS16 is installed you can use pretty much any wad manager version for future wad files.

6/7/8) All are correct but are optional steps. You dont actually have to do any of them, they just add the channels for those programs to the main menu so you dont have to start up the homebrew channel every time you want to use them.

7a) RVL-mios-v8.wad is needed if you want to play GC games. It is not the same custom patch used by the wii backup launcher.

Thanks ... I think you cleared me up (see, I was a bit fuzzy :) )

1.) Twighlight Hack (easy and self explanatory .. I wont call it an install anymore, promise :) )
2.) Install "IOS16-64-v257-prod.wad" using the "Wad Manager" & restart the Wii
3.) "cIOS36 rev8" install (using ios36-64-v1042.wad on the root of my SD) & restart the Wii
Optional:
4.) Start the "Wad Manager IOS16"
6.) Install "Wii Backup Launcher 03g Wiiish v2 EN.wad" (no restart)
7.) Install "RVL-mios-v8.wad" (no restart) Then use the Backup Launcher Channel to start Gamecube Games ?
8.) Install "DVD Dump v1.2.wad" and restart the Wii ...

Hopefully I'm square now and am not missing any additional steps. I'm still not exactly clear on what "cIOS_fix.wad" is for, and whether it is required for any part of my specific list above. I dont believe it is however.

So with a Virgin Wii, is all good above?

Thanks for the help !!!!!!

3.) "cIOS36 rev8" install (using ios36-64-v1042.wad on the root of my SD) & restart the Wii

6.) Install "Wii Backup Launcher 03g Wiiish v2 EN.wad" (no restart)
7.) Install "DVD Dump v1.2.wad" and restart the Wii ...
8.) cMIOS_rev3 install (using RVL-mios-v8.wad on the root of my SD) & restart the Wii ..

That should be it. Correct?
