Please test homebrew!

I think we all want to know if the HBC will work with the new update.

just tested out the homebrews apps that i have on my homebrew channel and it still work perfectly.

the only thing that i notice about this update is that nintendo let u use the sd card for more space, instead of have ur wii channel on ur wii menu. now u can access the channels on the sd card. its on the lower left corner, right next to the wii menu icon.

Interesting. That's reassuring to hear. Mind if I ask which homebrew apps you've confirmed as working?

My main concern is using GeckoOS to play my legitimately purchased import games.

I don't want to update to 4.0 and then pop in Tatsunoko vs Capcom only to discover that it's now an expensive coaster, you know?

i'm using all the latest version of homebrew apps. i have the snes, nes and gba emulator; geckoOS and some other stuff that i can name off the top of my head right now. but i also have tatsunoko vs capcom and it still work perfectly on my wii. cause i dont use geckoOS to run tatsunoko vs capcom, but i have tested it out on it and it work perfectly. i just use my disc channel to run it, since i have a wiikey 1 and region free turn on, on my wii. so everything still work perfectly. all the custom vc channel that i have install into when i was using 3.2u, all of them still there and working fully on 4.0u

I want confirmation from others that everything still works before I let mine download anything. I definitely don't trust Big N not to have plugged a few holes.

I wonder if you can install homebrew if you have 4.0 installed? Everything still works? backups? Etc? I read somewhere that updating currently to 4.0 deletes the homebrew channel.

If you previously have homebrew channel installed it will stay installed and boot some but not all applications.

As well it looks like at this point the TP hack is not an option for 4.0 Firmware.

I would recommend all users to hold off on the update till more information is known.

The best site (my opionion) to keep up with info on this is WiiBrew which you can find HERE.

Agreed. No sense to update anyway for me.

From hackmii.com, team twiizers, the makers of HBC and the TP hack:

System Menu 4.0 Rundown

I?ll keep this brief.

Nintendo, as expected, half-assed the SD feature by just automating the copy to NAND. No surprise there.

The IOS16 that warez users used to pirate is no longer an option, thank goodness.

HBC survives. So does DVDX.

They fixed the bug that the HBC installer and DVDX 3.4 installer use; time to bring out another one.

Twilight Hack no longer works. I?d like to remind everyone that this exploit has been in use for over a year. Whether it comes back or a new game exploit takes its place, I think we can say it?s served us all well.

No new problems expected with BootMii, other than needing a new exploit as mentioned above.

Team twiizers did say after they fixed the twilight hack for 3.4 that it may be it's last hurrah and they didnt know if they could fix it again.

Here's hoping we get a new exploit working soon. Homebrew is in trouble without one.

So far I've used FCEU, SNES9xGX, Visual Boy Advance and GeckoOS on HBC after installing the update and I can confirm that they work.

I decided to install the update simply because I have a lot of N64 games and I want to run them off the SD card.

I figure that since we know 4.0 currently works with most Wii homebrew, better to download it now for the SD card loading than to wait until 4.1 comes along and disables HBC.

Also keep in mind that Nintendo can access any Wii with WiiConnect24 enabled, so best to keep that turned off for now.

Nintendo has released System Menu 4.0, which includes a batch of IOS updates. Updating is not recommended at this point!

Quote:
The announcement lists these changes:

* Virtual Console/WiiWare titles can be launched directly from a SD card.
* SDHC support, up to 32GB
* ...

The update includes a batch of IOS updates issued a few hours before the System Menu update.
According to Wiibrew, the update is confirmed to kill The Homebrew Channel (new install AND already installed), DVDx, and likely the Twilight hack as well. Some users are reporting that HBC still boots from the new "SD Channel" added by the firmware but some apps will not launch from it. We strongly recommend not updating until more information is available.

UPDATE #5: WAD Manager is not affected so long as cIOS was installed before the update.

UPDATE #4: Marcan has commented at the HackMii blog...

UPDATE #3: Previous installs of the Homebrew Channel can be run from SD card, as stated above, but cannot be transferred back to the Wii's system memory. Installed WAD files also cannot be moved back to system memory.

UPDATE #2: Previous installed of The Homebrew Channel and DVDx seem to be fine after updating. You may or may not be able to install some new apps after updating to 4.0, though, so it is recommended to hold off until it is investigated further.

UPDATE #1: It has been CONFIRMED that the Twilight hack can no longer be copied from SD card. If you do not have already have it installed, you will not be able to run it after updating to 4.0 It may also be impossible to install other apps after the update so, again, DO NOT UPDATE UNTIL MORE INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE.

I believe this still works as long as homebrew was already installed. You can supposely play games right off the SD card now as well. Hope they come with a new hack for when they start shipping it with 4.0 already installed.
