The internet radio company Last.fm has announced that some countries will now have to pay to use the service, but did note that the major markets of the US, UK and Germany will not be affected by the policy change. All features will remain the same but users in all other countries will have to pay a ?3 monthly fee. ?3 a month? For what? Aren't they already selling listening data that's provided to them at no charge from all over the world?

Social networking trying to charge for access. I'm sure Last.fm isn't the first to try, but really. How cute.

Edit- This article is strangely worded. Are they only charging for their silly Genius-like personalized radio station?

Obviously Last.fm is rapidly joining the commercial bandwagon and doing it without scruples - charging people who can least afford to pay. It will never work. I can't even read the article fully here as I see the Last.fm logo plastered all over it!
