So what's known so far about v4.0? All I can seem to find out is that HBC and DVDX 3.4 still work, but that the Twilight Hack is not working anymore.

Oh, and that the Wii supports up to 32GB SD cards with the update now...

No. You can't install wads in 4.0.
Not with Waninkoko's WAD manager v1.1 , anyway.

And you have tried and tested this with the wad manager 1.3 on firmware 4.0?

I just want to make sure that this works before upgrading to 4.0 and not being able to downgrade, im not really bothered about installing homebrew apps as there isnt currently any useful for me i just want to be able to install and play vracked wads on the wii :)

Ah i see, theres not much point in me updating to 4.0 then as i thought the SDHC card compatibility upto 32gig allowed you to play games off it?

Ive just read on another thread that another guy who is on 4.0 has the wads working but had to re install all of them and then he copied to the SD card and they will play off it as if they were legit wads

If mthat was my post on the other thread m8,apologies but it seems Im mistaken:/ genuine mistake-prob a little too much excitement at things seeming to go too well:/ what ive found is below

What I didnt realise is I copied the games to sd card, instead of moving them.Which means they were present on both the sd card & the wii system menu (I didnt realise they wre still there as theyre on the 3rd screen along (I have a lot of stuff installed as channels)
With the game still present on the system menu, they boot from the sd card.As soon as I deleted them from the wii system memory, when trying to load from sd card I get a 'fail to launch' error :( Which means in all essence the update is next to useless for wad installs.
Apologies for that guys, although Im pretty sure there must be a way round this, its looking like a completely new wad installer is needed-something that installs the main game to straight to the sd card & the configuration files or whatever to the system memory??

You CAN play WiiWare/VC/Custom Channels you've installed via WAD Manager and play them via the SD Channel! (Thanks stev!) Once you update to 4.0, you must find a IOS60 file, patch it with freethebug, and then install it via wad manager. Once you have, use the "MOVE" option on the Wii to move the WAD over to the SD card, launch it, success!

just got it working via SD card on 4.0... just google IOS60 installer, add it to apps from HBC, run it and then you will be able to play VC/WiiWare games installed from wads from the SD card

Followed that guide also and it worked great. Question about VC wad install. Do I put the wads in a folder on the root, then run them from the sd card menu? not sure about the file structure on placing VC wads on the sd card to show as channels. do I still need a wad manager to activate these?

hi m8,you cant run straight from wads, you need wad manager to install the wads as usual. Then use the data management menu in the wii to move them back to the sd card. They then show up in the new sd icon menu & you can play straight from there.

I just updated the console to 4.0 and never had the HBC or anything else on it before. Can I use the guide in order to get the WAD installer to work? Because it says "not to update UNLESS YOU HAVE CIOS rev7 OR 8 & HBC INSTALLED"? What's that about?

Or will it be alright if I just start from method 1?

If you want to install WADs on system menu version 4.0, you can still install them via Waninkoko's WAD manager v1.31 and run them from teh system memory.

if you want to run them from the SD card you need to install this to which you need to read the instructions below.

download IOS60 installer/patcher from: http://f.imagehost.org/download/0760/IOS60_installer

extract and put it into your apps folder on your SD card and launch via homebrew channel.

IMPORTANT!!!!

When launched it will ask you if you want to install IOS61. Press B to deny this.

it will then ask you if you want to install IOS60. Press A to confirm this.

If it asks you if you want to patch IOS60, Press A to confirm.

Finally it will ask you if you want to install the Shop Channel, Press B to deny this.

Finished you should now be able to run installed WiiWare wads from the SD card. Well it worked for me anyways!

This only works if you are NOT on 4.0. It will not install if you didn't do it before you updated.

I have the real version 4.0E on my Wii and it has a feature now where you can copy channels directly from your Wii to an SD card.. Is there anywhere I can download these files?

Download what? That's a part of 4.0. This isn't clear.
