Are you talking about WAD files?

M8,
your post was NOT clear. Our Wii 4.0 is also real version, there no fake 4.0..we just added some features that nintendo did not include...

You can test the feature by moving your internet Channel to SD, or buy games in Nintendo, install then move the game to SD.

Sorry if I didn't word it clearly, I have REAL 4.0E not fake (never said I had fake) My question is WITHOUT using WAD files/homebrew etc etc, can for instance someone download the Mario Kart 64 VC game from the Wii shop channel, transfer it to SD card, upload it online, have me download it and put it on my Wii for free? I am not talking about WAD files, i am talking about the REAL downloaded files through Wii Channel Shop

I didn't realise it would be considered piracy, that is why i'm asking the questions to find out about it. I was basically trying to see if i could transfer channels/vc games/wii ware via sd card between consoles just like you could with say.. a save game on a memory card. there is no piracy, bad intention.

So trying to get this right.

To run WADS off my SD card - do i need to FIRST install it onto the Wii memory as a channel like i used to, and THEN, move it to the sd card from the wii???

If I buy an mp3 online at itunes (legally) and then email it to my best mate, am i not allowed to do that even though i BOUGHT the mp3? Thought this would have been the same thing as the file would have been paid for by someone in the first place and then given to someone else. Didn't think that was piracy, and if it is then i need to learn more laws about piracy before i get myself screwed over.. I don't believe in not doing things fairly most the time, but the prices they want to charge on wii shop.. well i could buy a n64, snes, nes and all the games i want on there for LESS than it would cost to download them all, but i dont want 3 old consoles and a wii :P so was just trying to find a way to do it easily. please don't get me wrong, i am not trying to ... condone piracy. i think it is very wrong. just i didnt realise this would have been considered piracy, my bad :)

i have the wad manager in the homebrew channel but when i try to install a wad it freezes. i have 4.0 and i have the iso 60 patched to play games form sd card channel help.

I got all you guys covered. I had a virgin wii 4.0 as of may11 09. I used bannerbomb's new hack to install HBC channel. {No TP hack was used as 4.0 cannot use this method.} I then used 1.4 wad manager loaded with bannerbomb from SD (same way it got me HBC channel). {I did NOT use the HBC channel for launch of wad manager 1.4.} I next selected the iOS35 (i believe), then selected my game.wad and I now have that "mighty guy" 9 as a channel on my unmodded, used to be virgin, Wii 4.0.

I have 4.0, HBC and wad manager 1.3 and waninkoko's 1.4. I can only install certain wads like HBC, Loadmii, and wad manager 1.3 through the bannerbomb exploit. On the menu screen I cannot load wads, as I get an error for any wad {Error -2011}. SO I can only install certain wads as I said before with the bannerbomb exploit. I have wiiware wads and ready to install. But the screen just freezes when it is "installing content #(number here)". I Successfully installed one wiiware, a certain *cough* mighty*cough MAN 9. But like str0n9 bad episodes, It is freezing at "installing content #9". Any thoughts?

Under 4.0 I have found that the wad manager is a bit more touchy about wads. Some of the wads I had under 3.4 wouldn't work with 4.0. After some google research I found it is a somewhat common problem in regards to slight wad corruption. After learning this I found a new source for my downloads and the wads installed perfectly. Apparently under earlier versions the corruption either wasn't enough to effect the wad install or didn't exist at all. So first try downloading the wad again, if that doesn't work get it from a new source. After redownloading all my issues with corruption were fixed.

In regards to the last part about freezing at "initialising #09", give it more time and see what happens. When I first started installing under 4.0 I thought it was freezing too and got frustrated. I found out in my case it wasn't freezing, it was just taking a lot longer to get the job done. Give it a few minutes, walk away get a cup of coffee and a doughnut, when you get back hopefully the install will be complete. On my machine just about the time I get ready to pull the plug and throw the machine across the room, it completes. It doesn't do this with every wad but when it does happen it always happens on segment 09. So far giving it more time has always worked for me.

OK EVERYTHING WORKS!!!!!!!!

I had an official nintendo wii 4.0. As of 5/11/09 I used bannerbomb exploit to launch HBC. The same method I launched wad manager 1.4. What I did was take the wad manager 1.4.dol and rename it to boot.dol(delete the boot.dol on the SD card). I put it in the root of SD card (replacing old boot.dol, and used Bannerbomb to launch this "boot.dol". Neat huh? I installed IOS60patched.wad. (search google/ dunno if this had any effect on wii but DID NOT HARM it.)

I restarted Wii then bannerbomb launched the wad manager 1.4 again. They give you the option to use a specific IOS to install a .wad. IOS35 works for HBC, (IOS60patched.wad too) and certain other .wad files (this worked with MegaMan9 too). I used IOS254 to install popular wiiware titles. And yes......... BE PATIENT. It takes about 3 minutes to load bigger .wad files. AND DO NOT OVERLOAD WII SYSTEM MEMORY WITH CHANNELS. I can fit only about 4 wiiware games besides the WiiChannels (i.e. weather channel, news, nintendo chanel, shop channel) I did in fact overload my wii. My heart dropped.........

I had to restart my Wii and it forced me to go to Data management settings and delete Channels to make room for the Wii to Operate. I deleted useless channels like Check Mii Out channel, Mario Kart Channel (useless to me anyway) when blocks started to appear, (I was thinking YES!!!) then the screen went black and said FILES CORRUPTED REFER TO WII MANUAL (or something of that nature) I figured I did it now........ I bricked my wii...............

I unplugged it, and started it up again, and....... everything was fine. I had new wiiware wad titles installed!!!

Lesson learned: DO NOT OVERLOAD THE WII. don't get too greedy and go crazy and install wad channels left and right.

Just save the wads on your computer and install when ready to play, only keep about 4 at a time on Wii memory (unless you can run 'em off SD card ;) )

You can press A & B on the Wiimote at the same time to pick up and drop Channels to arrange the menu as you like.

Load Bannerbomb by selecting the Wii button on the bottom left corner on the wii menu screen, then selecting channels, then the SD card, It will ask you to load boot.dol, select yes! selecting "no" may freeze the Wii, or selecting the SD menu screen on the home Wii Menu screen will freeze the Wii too. No worries, just unplug the wii and restart.

I've been at this for a week with my official 4.0U and I hope this helps anyone that was in the same position as me. True believers,..... this can work for you, forget what they say when doing this to a 4.0 is impossible...........

Oh, and turn off WiiConnect 24. Don't think you would want any detections............

ONE MORE THING: If you find the Wad Manager Channel not working for you, this may be because of the 4.0 firmware. Just launch wad manager 1.4 with the comex's bannerbomb exploit instead.

look "INSTALL hbc ON VIRGIN 4.0 FIRMWARE"

Starcube's site has all the installation steps you need to get bannerbomb running.

Let me hear your success stories or need any further explanation!

I overloaded the same Wii 2 times yesterday (well I think only once actually).

The first time I don't think I went over but I had all the blocks full.

The second time (my math was wrong when installing the WiiWare WAD files).

I had 3 of the WiiWare games listed normally (icons where normal) in the channel management but the last and 4th WiiWare game I installed had an SD CARD DATA ICON. It didn't list the WiiWare game but it looks like it transfered the overflow to the SD Card.

I transfered the 3 WiiWare games to the SD card. Then just erased the SD CARD DATA ICON channel listed and it brought back like 80 blocks and the rest must have been ereased from the SD Card.

But anyway after I deleted that I just reinstalled the WiiWare game and everything went fine.

So it looks like 4.0 might have a safe guard if you overflow your internal memory.

On the subject of .wad files....... I am making a folder with n64 .wad files and wiiware files on my computer. (all others I can run off of emulators, so why take up space on menu screen, unless you want to look cool having all channels on wii menu filled.. :p)

I need more memory on my Wii for these Channels (WiiWare namely).

I am wondering... (mind you, I have 4.0U....) If I get another SD card, so I have 2 SD cards.... With one card installing .wad files (with bannerbomb), ejecting SD card (after successful installation of .wad file), load up clean formatted SD card #2 (no bannerbomb on this card), and move the installed channel(s) off of my Wii to the clean SD #2.......

Will this allow me to have access to ALL my Wii channels?

Yes you can use 1 SD Card to install VC/WiiWare WAD's and use another SD Card to MOVE the channels to it. Just make sure you have the SD card you move the channels to in the Wii to load them.

I remember I moved an official purchased star fox to SD, and loaded from SD option. It did work, but in fact loads a save file that takes up a hefty 100 or so blocks of memory in Wii. It needs Wii memory to load. So, it seems then you would have to eventually delete data that Wii creates based off your loaded SD Channel. We'll always lose because the Wii will always create data when loading a channel from SD? So I guess even running channels off SD, creating and using Wii memory STILL, there's a risk in overloading there.I guess the Wii will always need 100 or so blocks of memory to operate.

I will have to look into this a bit more.....

As I understand loading a VC/WiiWare off of the SD actually loads the VC/WiiWare game to the Wii Internal Memory temporally when playing the game. If I am wrong I am sure someone will tell me.

You are correct, the channels on the SD cards are moved/copied to the internal wii memory before launch. Let's say, as an example, you have the wiiware title Onslaught which takes up 308 blocks on the SD card. When you go to play Onslaught those 308 blocks are moved to the wii internal memory. After playing go to the wii data area and look in the channel section. Here you will fine 308 blocks of data stored in something called the "SD Card Menu Data" which is the temp file. When you change titles the size of this temp channel changes to match the title your playing.

The nice thing about 4.0 is now you can have your cake and eat it too, sorta speak. I have all my wads installed on my SD card and within easy reach to play without having to take up my entire system memory or install/remove wads all the time.

OK............. So are you saying that the Wii will match the game being loaded temporarily. Then if you load a new channel from SD, it will adjust its blocks to match the new channel... as long as the Wii has enough memory.....?
