Please help me and read the following, I know its lengthy, but it saves you from asking me Q's as I have everything I have done to it listed below.....
Specs:
Windows XP
.net 2.0
removed viamraid and installed portio32
Liteon hooked up via Sata to PCI sata card w/ 360 powering the drive
Under Device Manager, RAID shows up as "VIA 3249 RAID Controller" w/ a yellow caution exclamation, which I read is normal
XBOX 360 I/O Device Drivers shows up perfectly fine.
(I installed the raid card first and then PORT I/0 32, does that matter?)
I power up the 360, open the drive 1/2 way (360 power flashing green...normal?). Start up JF, it says 0 DVD drives found. I go to DVDKey 32 tab, and when i pick 0xE400 it freezes, and I have to restart PC. Do I have to do anything in the BIOS?
Also when I reopen PORTIO32.exe, it says:
ROOT\UNKNOWN\0000
NAME: PORTIO32
HARDWARE ID's: (all blank)
winford_io
1 matching device found
PortIO32: I/O driver installed and running

Which port are you using on your PCI card? If you are using the external SATA port change it to one of the internal ports. My JF used to crash too before I was running it internally.
Also did you install any drivers for your PCI card? They need to be uninstalled!
Hope this helped...

When you say external/internal....
external = outside of PC case & internal = on actual side of PCI card (i.e. open PC)
Right :)?
I actually tried this a couple times w/ no luck
As for the drivers....
I have installed them, then removed the viamraid.sys. The yellow "!" appears next to RAID controller and the XBOX 360 I/O shows up fine.
I also completely uninstalled/removed the 6421A, and ONLY install the PORTIO32 but still nothing...
Also, when I do finally get it working, should I be able to see the 360 DVD drive in "My computer" as a regular dvd drive?

Yup, tried those exact steps on both sata ports multiple times. Tried with DVD drive on and off. I'm running out of ideas.
Now I gotta look in the garage for my 10 year old PC and put XP on it and see if that works...
Does anything need to be done in the BIOS?
Dumb Q: the PCI card has an ide port on it, do I need to plug an IDE into it?
Any other ideas/suggestions would be appreciated, keep the input coming :).

This sounds like the same problem I had. I mistakenly downloaded the drivers and used an installer program. I kept deleting the via driver, but it kept coming back automatically when I re-booted. I couldn't figure out how to stop it so I restored my computer to before I installed the driver. When uninstalled, Device Manager will show it as a generic name like "Raid Controller", but not "VIA raid controller". Check to see if the driver is there again. I bet it is which is why JF is freezing.

um no no need to do anything with IDE port, I know its frustrating spent an hour last night rebooting PC and Xbox a million times!
Flashing took 3mins in total, anti-climax lol for all that fuss!
May I suggest you buy the same PCI-Card as me??? Not expensive...
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3-Port-PCI-SATA-Ca...1713.m153.l1262
If not you're going to have to try it on another PC like you said?

Lol.... in a way, i kinda did buy that one, this the one I bought:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?V...em=150331099972
Looks the same, just a different seller.
I actually spent 3 hours of repeating the same steps over and over. You have any idea about the
"
Also when I reopen PORTIO32.exe, it says:
ROOT\UNKNOWN\0000
NAME: PORTIO32
HARDWARE ID's: (all blank)
"
When I open up JF, it says 0 cd/dvd drives found ( I disconnected PC dvd drive).

Oh lol I saw that one too!
Oh hold on, have you tried to manually install the Port.exe?
That may be the solution!

hmmm, I am using that installer program you are referring to, but the viamraid does not come back after reboot. So did you leave it as "RAID Controller" and then install PORTIO32, or did you install drivers for the device which then puts on viamraid, and then delete it.
Dingi,
When I install the PORTIO32, it tells me to install it manually. I follow the step-by-step guide of installing hardware and browsing for the driver. Then, just for fun, i open the PORTIO32.exe again and it gives me the message stated above

After I rolled back to before I installed the driver, I just manually installed PortIO32 without ever installing the VIA driver. If your VIA driver isn't coming back, you don't have the same issue I did and the problem is probably with PortIO32.
When you say the XBox IO device drivers show up fine in device manager, does it say "Xbox 360 I/O Device Drivers" with "PortIO32 - Xbox 360 Device Driver" under it when it is expanded?
Is this how you installed it manually?
Windows XP
----------
1. Open the Control Panel.
2. Open the "Add Hardware" wizard. If you are using Windows XP's default "Category View" for the Control Panel, this is done by clicking on "Printers and Other Hardware" and under "See Also" on the left, click "Add Hardware".
3. The wizard typically displays a screen explaining what it is used for. Click Next to continue.
4. The wizard may automatically scan for new hardware. The scanning will not detect anything related to PortIO32.
5. You may be asked "Have you already connected this hardware to your computer?" Regardless of whether you have installed any cards yet, click Yes.
6. You will be shown a list of the hardware already installed in your computer. Scroll all the way down and select "Add a new hardware device"
7. You will be asked whether Windows should search for the new hardware. Select "Install the hardware that I manually select from a list"
8. A list of hardware categories will be shown. Select "Show All Devices" (On some versions of Windows this may be called "Other")
9. Click the "Have Disk" button and point Windows to the "win\driver" directory of the PortIO32 distribution.
10. A list of drivers found in the directory you specified will be shown. Select the "PortIO32 Xbox 360 Device Driver" item and click Next.
11. Click Next again to "start installing your new hardware."
12. The files will be copied and installed. Click Finish to complete. You do not need to restart your computer.

yes and yes.
However for step 9, I browsed to the "Manual Install" folder that is in the JF folder on my desktop. (.inf file)
Should I copy paste this .inf file in
C:\Windows\System32\drivers
???

In the above quote you said you power on the drive and open tray half way... is that a misprint? You need to power on the drive with the tray already half open. See what I mean? Without power to the drive I manually eject it and pull it all the way out and then push it half way in, then I power on the drive and then start JF. I know it sounds trivial but maybe this is your problem. When powered and you push the tray in does the liteon pull it the rest of the way in?

I power up the 360, eject the drive, then push eject again (to close the drive) and before it fully closes, pull out the power to the DVD drive. I push/pull the tray to 1/2 open status, and put the dvd power back in.
As far as that is concerned, I do all this while my comp is up and running (I have also tried doing the above before booting PC). Then I open JF and it semi works ("0 dvd drives found") but only when i click the drop down in dvdkey32 and choose a specific addresses (0xE400) does it freeze up.

Did you get it working yet? If not, try diconnecting the sata cable connecting your xbox drive and your pci card. JF should still show you the sata ports even though it obviously won't see the xbox drive. See if it freezes that way to narrow down the problem. If it does (which I'm assuming it will), the problem has nothing to do with which port on the card you are using and whether your drive is 1/2 open or not. If this is the case you might have a bad card. I would try restoring your computer to a previous state before you installed the card and never installing the via drivers at all. After you add the card and start your computer, windows will see the new hardware and start the add hardware wizard for it. Just cancel out of this and don't install any drivers for it. Just re-install PortIO32 and see if that works. If this doesn't work I would say you either have a bad card or a bad copy of PortIO32.
To answer some of your previous questions:
No, windows will not see the drive with the original firmware on it. You need special firmware to get windows to see it.
No, you shouldn't have to manually put the inf file into your drivers folder, just browse for it using the add hardware wizard like you said you did.

Hellz yah!!!! I finally got it and to be honest, I dont know what I did. One thing for sure ( i guess error on my part) is I didnt know what address my sata port was (i.e. 0xC340). and Since I didnt know this, when I would choose another port, the comp would freeze on me, and I assumed that sumthin was broke. But I guess it was workin this whole time and I just had to choose the correct sata port?
/shrugz and /sigh
All I know is I'm enjoying some GH Metallica and it was well worth the 6+ hours of restarting this and that and reinstalling this and that over and over and over....
So thank you all for your input and help and I appreciate the help yall offered.

Glad to hear you got it working. 10 hours to flash your first one, 10 minutes to flash them from now on. That sounds familiar.
