If your onboard sata doesn't work I would get a VIA 6421 SATA card.

Do you mean " should I use the internal/onboard or should I get a PCI/PCIe card?" or do you mean "Should I get a card that has an eSata port?" Like dude above said, try the onboard if you got it. What chipset is you mobo?

Sounds like you have onboard sata. Do you see the ports, physically?
If you have an available one try to identify it. Once identified see if JF will recognize a drive on that port. You may have to send an intro or unlock to the drive. Goodluck!

Wow, I opened it said"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
JungleFlasher 0.1.51 Beta
Session Started Fri Mar 27 16:48:02 2009
This is a 32 bit process running on 2 x 32 bit CPUs
Found 4 I/O Ports.
Found 2 Com Ports.
Found 7 windows drives.
Found 2 CD/DVD drives.
I dont have any DVD drives connect to board, only my hard drive. I've not connect the lite-on drive yet. So, does that means it will work?
Go ahead and connect the Lite-ON. Then open up JF and go to the DVDkey tab. Look under drive properties and see if it says PLDS etc etc. If so you can re-extract your dummy bin from 1.5 and build your custom 1.51 firmware.
EDIT- I haven't had much luck with ICH7 chipset so I'm interested to see if you are able to do anything with it.
You just need to obtain the dummy bin before you do anything. Since it is a Lite-ON flashed with ix1.5, you need to do the half tray on the drive and click the "dummy from ixtreme" under the dvd key tab. That will pull all your important info including the dummy bin. Which at that point you can autoload ix1.51 and then spoof and flash.
The guide is a very good "backbone" for what you are doing. Although it is slightly unorganized and confusing to those who have never done it, but it's the best guide out right now.
Once your drive is recognized you need to click the button that says "Dummy from Ixtreme" on the dvdkey32 tab.
make sure you have the tray half open, it might not be neccessary anymore but it works for me. power OFF the drive, manually eject and manually push in half way, then power ON, then start JF.exe
the pc has really no way to power the drive without an adapter. I purchased an xtractor360. this device powers the xbox drive via a 4 pin molex connector in the pc, typically. It also has a chip on it to aid in reading the serial data from the Liteon and sending it to your pc via usb. You are aware of the serial data that is unique to the liteon? You will need a probe of some sort(there is alternate methods but for the price its worth it) to extract the serial data. Oh wait a second... your drive is already flashed. Disregard the serial ramble I just went on... a pre flashed drive can xtract serial data stored in ixtreme firmware via sata. My bad...lol.
You CAN use the xbox to power the drive but make sure the video cable is plugged in. Don't power it on until your are ready to read. I guess there is some business of the xbox shutting down if video cable or drive is not recognized after a pre determined amount of time.
The drive tray thing is also a feature of ixtreme firmware that puts the drive in vendor mode or assists in getting it recognized by JF. Look at the front of the drive. Use a pick or screwdriver (drive powered off) to turn the wheel with the belt on it. You will see the drive tray starting to come out. Pull it all the way out. Then push it in half way, or a little more than half. Then power the drive. Then start JF.
In the tutorial it shows you how to get the tray half open the proper way. Go ahead and do that then click "dummy from ixtreme". Without the tray in the proper status, it won't work.
The drive isn't bricked and the fix is easy. First you need to make a jump drive bootable. Then you need to put dosflash 1.7 (dosflash16 the .exe and the .typ) onto the jumpdrive and your custom ix1.51 firmware along with the l-o-erase.exe program.
7. I then took a jump drive and formatted it and made it bootable from iPrep, deleted all files off jump drive that iPrep put on it, and copied over DosFlash16( contains 2 files DosFlash.exe and DosFlash.typ from DoshFlash 1.7 beta)(google DosFlash 1.7 beta for download) and also copied Lite_CFW.bin. Also L-O-Eras.exe At this point jump drive should only have 4 files in it.
8. Booted to my jump drive and typed L-O-Eras.exe + my SATA number ( Mine was EC00 [VIA CHIPSET]), Kept typing that til I got the 72 status (FF720. Then I typed dosflash.exe and it will start to populate all info off of sata. Make sure you have any sata CD/DVD drives unplugged. You should see something like
NAME: MXXC(MX25L2005) That is your Lite-ON drive, the one you want (my corresponding number was 6)
9. It will give you 3 different commands, Read, Erase, Write
10. I chose write and it prompted me for firmware so I typed Lite_CFW.bin it started erasing and then started to write the firmware.
