I just installed my burner, and for some odd reason it's doing the same thing my CD-R did at one point.

It is able to read DVD-Rom software, and movies. On the other hand, it is UNABLE to record DVD-R's.

The software which was pre-packaged with the product is MyDVD and RecordNow. I attempted to record a movie via the software, and it said that the movie couldn't fit on the disc(4.7GB) but my gut feeling is that it is unable to even write to the disk, and if there is some type of write protection it would say that.

I put a blank DVD in the drive, and in My Computer, i double click on it, and it says Incorrect Function.

I reinstalled the drive, AND Windows XP Pro. As well as upgraded the firmware to 2.0, and the problem still exists.

If anyone can please help me that'd be great. My email is mdunleavy@excedra.com

Thank you,

Matt

Hi mdunleavy, All store bought DVD movies are encrypted. You can't just do a simple disc copy. You need a decrypting software like DVDSHRINK or DECRYPTER both free downloads. You can read or print the guides from the tab at the top of the page and then download the software from that tab also. Blank dvd discs say they are 4.7gig. Actual amount of files you can put on one is 4.4gig or less. Get the software, read the guides, then come back if you need help. We're always here to help.

They are DVD-R's, and I'm not copying anything, I'm just burning a movie off my hard drive.

I uploaded a few screenshots which should help you visualize my problems thus far.

The following screenshot is My Computer, while there is NO DVD-R in the drive.

The following is a dialog that pops up when you click on the icon for the blank DVD in my computer (to allow access)

Sorry, I mis-understood your post as to file type. If the HD files are in AVI format, they need to be converted to the proper dvd format. Use this link on HOW TO.

http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/convert_avi_to_dvd.cfm

If they are in a different format, check the guides tab. Should be a guide on other formats too. Once you have the right format, it should burn ok unless there is a problem with your burner or software. The screen shots don't show anything out of place. Make sure your burner and media match(+R or -R).

Yeah, but I REALLY dont even think i have access to my burner's burning function. I just think it's a bit odd that the drive would say CD-Rom next to it, in My Computer, once a DVD-R is placed in it. I'll try what you said though and give you some feedback.

Thanks for you help thus far, as this problem is really annoying and i need to have it fixed ASAP.

Thank you very much for you help, the problem is now fixed. I reinstalled the burner, and upgraded the firmware to 2.0b and it's fine.
