My first time flashing a lite-on. I have only a few hours to finish this or I will have to put it all back together and leave it for next time I come home from college.
Setup:
Spear Xtractor usb (COM cable doesn't work at all) with a generic 6421a card off of amazon. Now the weird thing is using the Xtractor Reader I got an easy read, with the key XXXX3CFF2A845B30AEA86DXXXXXXXXX (the Xs are omitted obviously) and the files it created like dummy.bin. The fact it asked me for tor a location to save the files itself indicates a clear read no? (Same keyh multiple times)
Now the weird thing is I try the exact same read on Jungle Flasher and jungle flasher won't read the drive or gives it all 0000s.
Now my question is the most important, irrepelacble thing to get off the drive is the key, not the dummy file or anytthing correct?
Given that I can't use JF is there any other program GUI that will allow me to flash my drive?
Be nice.

also given my dvd key, dummy, identify, inquiry, and serial bins, is there anyway without JF to check of these reads are well, or can we just assume that since xtractor reader allowed me to save these files that they are good reads and I can just go onto flashing?
Sorry if my grammar is bad, BEEN A LONG DAY
Be nice.

basically i want to know if there is anyway to "confirm" the files and dvd key off the xtractor reader are fine, since i can use the xtractor program to read files but can't seem to use the jungle flasher for the same task.
any quick answers? yes or not
Be nice.

can't explain while JF wont read the same... do this, open the file you read with DSDB fixer. (u can find it on xbins) If it checks out okay then I woudl READ one more time and compare keys, etc. If everything is the same then FLASH.
the only true way to tell if a flash is good is to try it in the xbox. if after multiple reads you end up with the same data then there is no sense in getting paranoid about flashing as that is all you have to work with. Capiche?
I hope this works for you.
Does JF even see your drive now?

I had the same problem last nite with mine, stayed up all nite long trying to fix, I was able to get, all four bins (dummy, identify, inquiry, and serial) but I attempted to erase and it froze completely. JF would not connect at all...finally I used Iprep (the following directions were givn to be member {leerage}
I then took a jump drive and formatted it and made it bootable from iPrep, deleted all files off jump drive that iPrep put on it, and copied over DosFlash16( contains 2 files DosFlash.exe and DosFlash.typ from DoshFlash 1.7 beta)(google DosFlash 1.7 beta for download) and also copied Lite_CFW.bin. Also L-O-Eras.exe At this point jump drive should only have 4 files in it.
Booted to my jump drive and typed L-O-Eras.exe + my SATA number ( Mine was EC00 [VIA CHIPSET]), Kept typing that til I got the 72 status (FF720. Then I typed dosflash.exe and it will start to populate all info off of sata. Make sure you have any sata CD/DVD drives unplugged. You should see something like
NAME: MXXC(MX25L2005) That is your Lite-ON drive, the one you want (my corresponding number was 6)
It will give you 3 different commands, Read, Erase, Write
I chose write and it prompted me for firmware so I typed Lite_CFW.bin it started erasing and then started to write the firmware.

goodpoint. @op.. you can always try dos, iprep, or mod disc1.52
just an fyi... jf freezing after drive is erased is purely a function of your sata controllers, not JF.

Ok two things:
used dsdb fixer, all the numbers match except for pdb (the label for which I don't think is included in American drives)"Footer PCB sn not found" 'A1' HW ver not found.
So again I am not even as far as you are, I am still concerned over whether or not the files I get from the spear using Xtractorreader are valid, this includes the dummy, identify.... bins
I am thinking of rapping this up in the next ten minutes as I have to pack to go back to school tomorrow, so I might just try something fast if you give it to me, if not I will probably be back here in 3 months ;( that is if i don't get it modded

1. as long as I have the DVD key not the dummy.bin I can flash the drive without risk of it going dead, correct?
2. tried dos flash, it does not recognize the driver which is #0, but says an unknown device is there, when I select it for ATAPI, it recognizes it as Lite-On. I try to get the keys and it asks for the data interface, I tried both USB, serial, serial alone, USB alone, and none of them are being read "can't read interface."
3. If I do this I swear to god I will make the dumbest for the dumbest tutorial on how to flash.
4. UPDATE as am typi8ng: got the drive recognized offhand in dosflash however it automatically goes to dvd-key is invalid! on reading the key ;(

Wow so remember the dummy file that I ran through dsdb fixer, i just took that sa a dummy went to command line and typed firmtool dummy.bin hacked.bin (lite on) and it said SUCCESS drive key copied drive serial copies, "Your hacked firmware is now ready to be flashed!"
Should I do press the magic button? After 13 hours I have no fucking confidence left, sorry for the bad words. I am actually thinking of stepping back rofl
But if this works I am serious about by idiot-proof guide
Last question that isn't adequately addressed in other places. when i power cycle using the xtractor with the on/off switch how fast do I flip the switch? Isn't there the possibility of dmg great here?
Be nice.
