I know that they are lot's of questions about playing PS2 backups on PS3s....
I also know that you can install operating systems like linux on your ps3...
so i was thinking, couldn't someone just install linux on their ps3, then download and install a ps2 emulator on the ps3. Wouldn't that let you play ps2 backups?
This might be a really stupid question... but i was just wondering?
Thanks so much...
Actually, that's very possible. Some folks are playing PS1 games that way.
The problem is, though, that 1) there's currently no LinuxPS2 emulator (at least not as far as I know), 2) Linux doesn't have access to the PS3's Cell or RSX (CPU or GPU), and 3) even if you emulated Windows on Linux to get the PS2 emulator working, it'd suck up so much ram that you wouldn't be able to play it at all.
There are other issues, I'm sure, but those are some of the biggest.
Thanks for the reply
I do remember reading about a ps2 emulator that works with linux, it's called PCSx2 or something....
But i was thinking that a ps2 may not be able to handle a ps2 emulator....
i know computers have a hard time...
Quote:Also just to note the original 80GB had a PS2 emulator as did the 60GB EU console.
just to clarify... you're saying that some versions of the ps3 can play ps2 games... right?
because i have an 80GB PS3 and i know it can't play ps2 games, im not sure if it is the original 80GB...
