I just flashed my bros Samsung MS28 using iPrep 8.8 and iXtreme 1.5

I have several backups that work on my own Benq so I decided to test them out before I put the box back together. Good thing. The disks will be read on the dashboard (ie. the name of the game will show up like non-backups would). However, upon selecting the game one of the following scenarios will take place:

-The game startup sequence will take place, but then I'll get a now loading screen in game that will go on forever.

-The game will start but cut off and give me the "disk read error, please clean" crap.

-As soon as I select the game the dashboard box will morph into the dreaded, "Open Tray" box and not have the title listed anymore.

Originals and DVDs still work fine. Please tell me there's something wrong with the flash and not the hardware, I'm not sure I'm tech savy enough to fix something like that. Any help much appreciated!

The sammy is having trouble reading the back-ups because of the dye. What type of Dual Layers are you using? If the discs aren't the issue, you could try a POT calibration on the laser.

EDIT- Also there is iXtreme 1.51 for Samsung.

Singapore Verbatims so it's not the disk I don't think.

I read about this pot calibration on another forum but couldn't find an explanation or tutorial anywhere. Could you point me in the right direction?

Try the x-scene mirror download HERE. Fairly easy to do. Also there is another option by tightening down 2 screws to get the laser closer to the disc. I don't have a tut to it but I think it was called Alternative Laser method or something like that.

definetly sounds like your laser. and it is NOT caused by flashing properly, but I am sure your brother is going to blame YOU!!! heheheheh, lol. that's what brothers do!!!

anyway follow leerages's advice and you'll be running backups in no time. Be patient with the laser tweek cause you just have to find a sweet spot. I reccomend measuring the resistance of the POT before you start turning it so incase you can't get it right then at least you can put it back so you can read originals.

Keep in mind replacement drive prices are dropping. You can get any make you want for $35 to $60 US on several different websites. Also replacement lasers are available for about $25 to $30 but at that price why not just buy the whole drive. Goodluck!!!

Thanks for help so far guys.

When you say find that sweet spot, do you mean that lower resistance isn't necessarily better? I hastily went ahead and jacked it down to about 3.05K Ohms, now I never get the open tray issue but gameplay still fails almost immediately. I think I'm going to go to 2.9K just to see what happens and if that doesn't work I'll start going back up.

I hate this tedium cuz keep cutting my fingers on the chassis, haha.

I had a BenQ that had trouble reading back-ups and then trouble on originals. Adjust the POT done to 3k and would instantly go to open tray after spinning for a 2-3 seconds.

Ended up replacing the laser and resolved the issue.

This blows, I even went down to 2.8K and it still crashes after I start a new game on anything. I'll try out a few more settings when I have a second to spare tomorrow and update. Looks like I'll be investing in a new laser pretty soon, ebay the best place for said device?

And yes, tedium is a noun form of tedious, or drawn out, exhausting, etc. Totally learned it from a Tool song (The Patient). I think I'll pass on the mittens, thanks though.

Update,

I tried multiple pot cals (ranging from 4-2.8k) and then tried the alternate method where you move the laser closer to the disk plate. Nothing worked, I'm tired of tweaking so I'm just breaking down and buying a HD63 replacement.

Thanks for the help anyways

Hey sorry for bumping up an old thread, but I thought I'd pass on some info I couldn't find anywhere else.

I bought a replacement laser assembly off eBay listed as a HD63 (as that's what my failing laser is). When it arrived I saw HD67 engraved in the body. FML, right? Not to panic, I searched online and several people were saying they got 67s to work in place of 63s. Not me. The new assembly won't do anything. So I'm going to try a new eBay seller and get my money back on the HD67.

Turning into a huge hassle, but it's a good learning experience, I hope this thread can save someone else some time and energy.
