I uses the X-Clamp fix on my 360, and it worked but my fan speed keeps getting faster as soon as I power on, anybody have a clue why?

To cool the 360? If you don't like the noise you could install some whisper fans instead. Also, if they're noisy it could be a sign that the bearings are going. NEVER ignore a fan that sounds unhealthy. I've seen $1000 gaming PCs destroyed by $3 fans.

I think its over heating but i'm not sure, the fan speed gradually increases as soon as I power it on, until it's louder than a jet, sometimes I get the Two red lights, and it shuts off. Could crapy thermal paste be the problem?

could be bad/improperly placed thermal compound. or too many washers on top of mother board try cleaning/replacing thermal paste and remove one washer. If you only have one on top of motherboard then just do the thermal compound do not have 0 washers on top.

I've tried everything from 1 washer to 3, still the same problem, could it be I have the heat sinks to tight or not tight enough, or unevenly tighten?

stupid question but did u remember to put the fan shroud on? get the secondary code I can help more. when it is flashing the red lights hold the sync button and tap eject 4 time each time see how many lights flash. if all four flash that is a 0 and one light =1 and so on

so you should get a 4 digit code like 0022 or 0011 or similar

It's not flashing now, I fixed that but the fans are running way faster than normal, on the dashboard.

with that high speed fans maybe the best you can get. play for awhile and see if it freezes if not you may be ok if so get you some artic silver or similar and try again.

And you never answered you did put the fan shroud back on right?

Yeah, I put it on, but I noticed if I tighten the heat sinks down to much I get 3 Red lights? Is there a reason for this?

when you tighten too much you are causing the same problem that you fixed by doing the xclamp replacement in the first place. put them as tight as you can without getting RROD

now the fan speeds are going fast then slow then fast and bacK and forth they won't stay a steady speed, could the height of the washers under the mobo have an effect on cooling?

well they r connected to the heatsinks so maybe but is usually the ones on top. you will just have to play with it until you find a place u are comfortable letting it run. in the future maybe use better thermal compound.

So the thermal compound could be the problem? I also tried it on extra 360 I had laying around, and I get the same problem.

sounds like it. I had a similar issue and switched to AS5 and it runs smooth now.

So the height under the board wouldn't have anything to do with it?

One more question before I go try, the compound I'm using is more like a cream instead of a paste, not anywhere near like the stuff on it before. Is that bad or good?

well they used pads so it will be thinner than that but it should be more like toothpaste i would say maybe slightly less thick.

when I took the heatsinks off ALL the thermal paste was around the edges of the die, very little on the surface.

I would think this would be an obvious sign that this paste is junk. Are you talking bout the two ram chips on top that sit under the gpu heatsink. if so they do not touch the heatsink but if you put a metal washer on them then yes put some paste on there too it will help the ram stay cool because you will be using the washer like a heatsink and then the washer will be touching the actual heatsink.
