Hi all

I've been searching google for a good while and can't come up with a good solid answer to my question, so i thought i would sign up and ask you very knowledgable members :)

My question is this: I paid to have my wii chipped, I don't know the details of the chip but the chip runs along the side of the console itself on the outer casing, it also has a blue light that lights up when the console is switched on, Im not sure if this description helps anyone with finding out what chip i have exactly but it was worth a shot :)

So, I proceeded to download some wii .iso files, in PAL format as i'm from scotland and i read that using NTSC won't work in my wii or will cause it to brick unless converted.

I followed a guide, using IOSpatcher.exe to change the IOS of the .iso to 249 and then ran the .iso through wiiUR to remove the update screen. This works perfectly for Mario Kart, the game played fine...but when i tried the same method with Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, it tells me that there is an error, to remove the game and restart the wii.

My question is, do specific games have specific numbers i need to change the IOS to? I have a few homebrew games i was given with the wii when it was chipped and they all work fine, but i want to start butning my own and after reading up on various methods im still a little confused.

I read alot about backup loaders/launchers but not sure how these work, currently all i need to do is stick the burned game in the wii and off we go, but perhaps someone can shed some light on the matter.

I really appreciate and thank everyone who takes the time to read this and respond, I'm new to the wii homebrew scene :)

Thanks in advance

Dale

I have also just now attemped to burn Sonic and the Black Knight using ISOpatcher to change it to 249 and removing the update screen, this game also resulted in an error, I read that newer games may require something different to work?

Hope this information kinda helps

Hi There,

It sounds as though you could have a D2SUN modchip in that has the external on and off switch to be able to turn the modchip on and off.

You can download NTSC games and play them on your PAL system but you must download and run the WiiBrickBlocker to prevent bricking your PAL wii.

You dont need to install the HomeBrew channel or anything else to be able to play backup games as you already have a modchip inside your wii, all you do is play them the same way as an original game.

Burn the ISO games with using imgburn and at 1x speed too :)

The best way is to download the PAL version of these games, if a PAL game has an update then thats fine to update the wii and it will not brick your wii but if an NTSC game has an update and then you run this in the game then it will brick your wii. I have found out that some games cant be played if you use the WiiBrickBlocker and that the update needs to be applied to system to be able to play the game.

Yes, your spot on with the brand of modchip, I googled for D2SUN and the images i saw are exactly the same as the chip i have :)

So what your saying is, I can download the NTSC versions of these games as long as i run WiiBrickblocker first? But preferably i should try and find PAL versions and if it wants to update let it?

Also, must i always change the IOS to 249 before burning? or just download the PAL version and burn away?

Thanks

Your getting slightly confused with people who 'softmod' their wii to be able to play backed up games as apposed to people who have an actual modchip like in your case, all you do is download the PAL ISO games and burn away whereas if you 'softmodded' your wii then you would have to install the HomeBrew channel then the backup launcher and mess around with the IOS's to be able to play the backedup games etc :)

Ok, so download and burn PAL with no changes, if it wants to update then let it.

If i download NTSC then use WiiBrickBlocker first and then burn?

Sorry i just want to get it right :P made 5 coasters already lol

Thanks

Sorry also i should have said that you can download the NTSC games to play in your PAL wii but to be on the safe side to prevent you bricking your wii you should run the ISO image through the WiiBrickBlocker (this stops the NTSC game requestion you to update the wii through the game and lets you play the game without updating) first before playing. Also if a Pal game has an update in it that you have to run before you can play and you know the game is from a trusted source then its fine to run the update and no bricking will occur.

When burning just use imgburn and burn at 1x, also people recommend using verbatim DVD-R but with your modchip it is compatible with different brands such as TDK etc.

Also to get experience in burning the games and to test them so your not always wasting discs and making coasters you could buy some DVD-RW to use. :)
