i currently use a sview superusb, it works great i love it!!
however, im moving soon to a non cabled area, the apartment has a s*y connection and im guessing the dish is communal. are there any boxes out there that work with a standard non-motorised s*y digital dish?? i dont know where to start, is the openmedia 500 worth a go??
hi mate if your looking for a box like starview to unscramble sky there aint none,cant be done.you can use any free to air box (for satellite).this will give you bbc 1/2/3/4 itv 1/2/3/4/ c4/e4/more4 c5.also free sport/movies/music/kids/ channels.and many more.ok you wont have sky channels,but still a lot.you can get a full frequency list in what satellite mag.also the sky satellite is co located with eurobird(meaning in the same small spot in space 2 satellites are placed so close together that your sky dish can pick up channels from both satellites at the same time)eurobird is as by its name european owned by eutelsat, and broadcasts european channels some free some scrambled(often the european scrambled channels broadcast english programms premier football and hollywood movies)if you buy a free to air reciever with a cam slot then you can buy a patched cam and insert it in the cam slot giving you the above foreign channel types,as well as all british tv.before buying a cam check first what channels are available if any and the make sure this cam will unlock these channels.and as with any box giving you channels for free you should not have,the same applies for cams(at some time they ntl/virgin/sky/whoever will change their cards/codes/or all the software)meaning there are no gauranties with them ever.i dont know about openmedia but someone else here might be able to help you.good luck mate.
well if its dual tuner,its got two tuners in it allowing you to record one channel while viewing another or perhaps feed a signal to an other box maybe in the bedroom,but as its a dual tuner you would need either a dual lnb or have 2 lnbs on your dish with to cables coming in to your flat or house from them(an lnb is the thing at the end of the bar at the front of your dish,that picks up the signal and sends the signal up the cable to your box)but as its as you say a communal dish i doubt you would be allowed to change or alter the dish.openmedia i suppose means it works with or supports or incorporates various media,you would need to check this box out either online or in store,so as to see it suits your viewing or other media needs.best to check if your not sure.dont know if i was of help but good luck anyway.

the dual tuner in the open media box lets you use a sat or cable connection, keeping both firmwares on.

any satellite mag/shop ,and you can get lots of software here on this forum for cams.you just download and install it.but again before buying a cam check the channel lists and make sure the satelitte has the channels you would like to unscramble and then make sure the cam works for these channels before buying it.

on my satalite recever i can pick up sly sports movies etc scranbled.. cam a cam unscramble these
you cant unscramble sky you have to pay sorry,but if had a non sky box with a cam fitted and a second dish or motorised dish pointing at hotbird satellite you would get loads of channels containg a lot of sport like sky sports(with premier football)and movies(again like sky all though some are foreign a lot are hollywood blockbusters)you can also get a box without a cam but with a patch as they call it(its a program similar to flashing your cable box)which does the same thing.try a sat tv forum or get info before buying always.good luck.
