I noticed that the Shop Channel had an error but the update finished, I pressed a button to restart and the screen went black and stayed that way for 5 minutes. I restarted my Wii now it has no display or sound.

I'm afraid you brick your wii. If your wii is still within warranty call Nintendo if they can fix it.

Note: Waninkoko guide is for US and EU only.

Can you provide detail, guide you used, region and firmware. Did you install the IOS60 and Shop Channel before using Waninkoko?

I installed IOS60 prior to 4.0 updater and I had the previous(not latest hence he update) version of the shop channel. The guide I used can be found here http://www.yafaze.com/wii/menu4.0hack.html
My region is NTSC and I had fw 3.4u with the latest HBC installed.

Did you have a previous cIOS36_rev7 or rev8 installed?

I used method 2 of that guide and everything works perfect.

I followed the same guide but i used method 1. Which i get all the full update from nintendo. The old IOS60 was only compatible to 3.2. If you have used method 1 you should be safe since it will overwrite/update the Wii shop and IOS60. Call nintendo if they can help you.

Same thing happened to me over the weekend. Got up to the Shopping Channel update, errored out and wouldn't reboot.

I found this, I'm going to try it out when I get home tonight, see if it does anything.

So you can move and load VC/WiiWare games off of SD Card.

Most homebrew works perfectly fine on 4.0 firmware so I don't see any reason why not to if you follow the directions properly.

I did follow the instructions, and for some unknown reason, it crapped out at the Shopping Channel update. It's happened to a few people, I did exactly what the directions said and a friend who did it successfully confirmed that he did it the same way, but for some reason, maybe space related, I dunno, it didn't make it and bricked.

Another reason I wanted to do it is because I've heard that 4.0 increases the size of the SD card you can use to 32GB, which would be cool

Is it possible that chipping the Wii could bring it back to life?

I dunno much about the ins and outs of putting a chip in, but if it would help, I would do it.
