Hi Guys,
Im sorry for the dumb question but on surfing the net I came across this site http://www.homebrewinstaller.com/ it claims its selling some kind of Homebrew software to let your Wii play backups and all sorts...

I was looking on google for a way to play backups and this link came up so after reading I came here to see what was being said about Wii backups and in here there is a link in the FAQ that takes you here http://wii.brewology.com/forum/viewtopic...ecd12c9a1c87fec where the bloke says homebrew does not play backups.

Can someone put me right as to what I need to do to get a backup to play on my Wii, am I going to have to open and mod chip somehow or can I soft mod.

Thanks in advance and if I have missed any threads dealing with this im sorry there are so many in here .
:-)

Homebrew can play backups, and I'm not sure what you were talking about because the guide you linked to confirms that.

Anyway, follow this guide, its better than that one http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/735325

If you already updated your wii to firmware 4.0 though you're going to have to wait, since the new firmware killed some homebrew and we're waiting for it to be fixed by the developers.

Thanks Penguin,

yes at the top it says it plays backups in the thread, but half way down some bloke asks about backups and the fella says It wont run backup sand its never mentioned again..

Im glad you can though and am planning on having a go so I need to get the right tutorial and downloads to manage it.

Thanks again.

Make sure you did not update your firmware to 4.0, otherwise you cannot install the TP hack.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the firmware post, I just looked and it seems i have 3.4 E does the E have any signifigance? In all the tutorials I dont see any mention of letters at the end of the Firmware versions..

Im guessing after reading most of the thread penguin posted im going to have to do the additional steps first to over ride the patch to stop the wad loader working...

Thanks again

E- is for europe , U- is for USA, J- japan..

Yes, you have to do the extra step, again read line by line not just once or twice, don't rush and don't panic if there are things you don't undertand stop and send a post/query. Some user end up bricking their thingking that they can revese what they did..

There are few files you needed that was not included so you have to google, also go to youtube and watch how people do it.

Thanks Fiber

Ive just been reading so far thats all,
Ive managed to get the files in the link here and the wad files from googling hopefully the correct ones and Im going to read a few times.

When I plugged in a USB wirless adaptor and went online the show wants me to update in the settings panel... will this make me have firmware version 4 is this the update I must NOT do? if so does this mean the shopping channel and others will be out of touch once I do the Homebrew mod?

I have a few questions more and hopefully will get a clear picture of what im doing, Ive yet to get a DS card reader/writer so no rush just yet..
Thanks again

On the tutorial page there is a link at the top for files needed to download, one is a was name and a suggestion to google it, I have found that, the other is a link to a Filefacory download and it wont let me download it, Im told there are no slots to free download and Ive to pay for a membership????

Did all you guys have to do this ? Ive downloaded the files from the link in this forums thread are they the same files?

Thanks again

DO NOT update, Just test the connection. I suggest to set your wii to manual connection rather than auto. Consult Wii user guide how to set. The Wii shopping for Europe version in 3.2, 3.3 and 3.4 can only be fix in 4.0. For USA version there is a fix or by pass.

It is illegal in the forum to post/link those file due to legal issue with big N. Some guys just google and they get all the package in a single download.

Thanks fibre,
I ment to say in the last thread the tutorial I cant get the download from is the one here http://gbatemp.net/index.php?s=572be6275...howtopic=112945

It takes me to a fileshare site that wants paying to join..Do I need these or do I just need the wad file as Ive found it.

So I have

HBC_+_WiiGator_0.3_gamma_GC_Support.Rar from a link in here

and googled and got

IOS36-64-v1042.wad
IOS16-64-v257-prod.wad

Is this all I need to get going?

Thanks again

Thanks for the input so far guys, I think I have it nearly set as to what I have to do and seem to have allthe files.
It will be a day or 2 till I get the Zelda game and a card reader so I will read through a few more times,

But Im usure as to where to start.

At the top of this post I was told this was the best guide to follow http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/735325

at the top of that guide it has RED for those with newer wii's to do a further mod to allow wad files to be used

At What point in this process do I go to the second link to do the further mod http://gbatemp.net/index.php?s=572be6275...howtopic=112945

Im sorry to be so thick but in the October mod its broken into sections

What You Need
Installing Homebrew Channel Guide
Downgrading/Upgrading Firmware Guide
Wii Shop Channel Fix Guide
Frequent Asked Questions

Do I complete the Homebrew mod from this stes tutorial then go do the additional October mod for the wad files second?

I ask because when I go to the October mod link its steps seem to start by the fella already having the zelda save made on his card so Im asuming I do the steps to that in the guide here first then go to the other link and do that?

Im sorry to ask but want to make sure I get it right.

Thanks

in the Wii fix guide do only the 3 step.

IOS16-64-v257-prod.wad
cios_fix.wad
IOS-downgrader

then go back to the original post.
and install the gamma loader you should be good to go.

No need to downgrade the firmware.

Thats for the support fiber..

I was getting muddled as to s atrting point and what tutorial to start with and where to go..

So I use the tutorial pointed to in here to get Homebrew onto my wii and I skip to the October tutorial once I have homebrew in and do Step 3 to eliminate the wad problem...

Then back to here to do the steps to add the gamma mod to load backups..

Is that about right?

yes, for a newbie it would be too confusing..if you google, there are other guides even better. When i started i have to watch in youtube and google.

It's illegal to post those links/guides in here since it contains all the files including proprietary (e.g. IOS). what i did i created my own guide with the files and guides burned to CD and just give to a friends who needs it.

Thanks fibre,

Well I have sat and about worked out what I need to do..
Seems like I have 2 sets of files, One to add homebrew with the zelda mod then a second set of files to do the fix and when im looking at them they appear to be very similar sets of files in file structure.. do you guys do this using 2 SD cards and have all the files needed for each job on each card or do you have the files on the PC and just format the card each time and add the folders you need?

I think I have a 1 gig SD card just now hopefully it will do me but could always get another.

Thanks again

Thanks fibre,

So at what point in this process can Bricking occur?
Ive watched a few videos on utube now as with the videos on the October tutorial link and it seems pretty straight forward once you read it over a few times and get the files you need?

If you can brick can you unbrick?

Thanks again :-)

you can find it here:

adding the TP and HBC does not brick the wii.

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/523776

Some user added customized stuff (e.g.softmii) and messed up.
