What is Europe's top browser? Stats says it's now Firefox 3

article published on 31 March, 2009

According to statistics from StatCounter, Firefox 3 has now become Europe's top browser, pushing Internet Explorer 7 from the top for the first time ever. The analytics company was quick to note however that adding market share from IE 6 and the new IE 8 keeps Internet Explorer as the most used browser, although Firefox is quickly gaining on that number as well. This is not a good thing. As soon as people twig more people use firefox than IE, I can bet you we'll see a lot more security holes popping up in FF.

Yeah, but at least Mozilla pushes out the updates ASAP. Microsoft is well-known to take its good time over updates.

This is also all dependent on tomorrow, the April 1st. I am assuming the worst and that the Internet will be brought to a standstill. But that's just me.

i prefer a separate browser, simply for the fact IE and explorer are tied together. Opera or SeaMonkey are my favorites, Firefox doesn't like my hardware.

While a increase in popularity will result in more "holes" they are usually patched very, very quickly due to Firefox's open-source nature. One person may find a hole to exploit while another will find that same hole and know how to "plug" it so it no longer poses a threat.

Now I'm waiting for the news of FF's overtake in the States.

I like Firefox, and use it as my primary browser, but it is important that Firefox not overtake the whole industry like Netscape and then IE each did. We need many different browsers all to be available and high quality.

I like Opera, but it seems nobody uses it. I have tried Chrome and it looks nice, but I am not used to how it works and its controls.

Keep many different browsers so Firefox remains competitive.

Nope they just don't like extra junk on the client computers. i don't blame them. IE will be bundled with MS till the end of days and for businesses thats good enough.

I thought M$ were fixing that soon, by making you download a huge bloated installer before you can get online to install Firefox?

Lothros, they did fix it; didn't you read the M$ news release. IE 8 is superfast and as stable as the Rock of Gibraltar.

E8 is about as good as it is going to get until they fire the top 4 layers of management and relpace the used car salesmen with persons that have technical savvy. Telling the public everything is fixed doesn't help unless there are real fixes.
