Did you do the layer break?
Make sure your console is chipped, first check if the warranty seal is still there by removing the front panel (there are a lot of tutorials how to disassemble an Xbox 360). There normally is a silver sticker saying Microsoft under the front panel. On newer versions there is another sticker, just a normal one. If it is still there, that's a bad sign, why should anyone bother to carefully remove the warranty seal and to put it back on when he wants to chip the console and there is no possible way Microsoft might repair his console. Remove the warranty seal carefully if it is still there (use a heat fan), don't break it. Then disassemble your Xbox 360. That's actually the only way to check if your console is chipped or not.
Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

I use imgburn. and why are you sure its not degrading?
This can be solved easily take the game you burnt and see if it plays in another modded console.

Having a play dvd or open tray error is common with a degrading laser. even using the same disks but with different burners can create different quality of a burn. If your laser is just begining to degrade alot of quality burns and originals will still work. It could also be your dvd burner is either crap or starting to fail. Do you know anyone with a dual layer burner? maybe you could reburn on theirs. And what do you mean by you dont know his xbox?

It very well could be the iso. The games your bother burnt where they burnt on your computer? The ones you say worked fine I assume you mean in your xbox right? What brand of disks are you using? Did you set the booktype to dvd-rom?

I actually was trying to find out if your Xbox 360 has a chip or mod at all. But when you say you already played some of the games your brother burned, I guess this question is obsolete.
About your CloneCD question, yes, I burn my games exactly the way you described. You might also try to select a higher burning speed. I know this sounds madness, but these media were designet to be burned with 8x speed, not 2.4x. There are people with game problems that got solved this way.
Also this exactly sounds like a wrong (or not at all) set layer break and I don't know the quality of the tutorials you read, therefor my question. Btw, always use the .dvd file when there is one with the game, it automatically sets the layerbreak and so on for you.

Eisherz he said the games from his brother were not played on his system.
khrwii yes that could cause it to say play dvd. However I'm not sure your system has been flashed or chipped. This has to be done before it will play burnt games.

Im sorry I misread. it was on your xbox but not on your pc. yes set booktype to dvd-rom not auto. Use the .dvd to burn and try a different burn speed. reburn and post results.

I always burn my games at 8x, never had a bad burn in over 40.
