My 360 has just broken but it is not shown the three red lights. This is the oldest type of xbox 360 and I bought it back in November 2005 when they first came out. I never has any problems with it up until now and I never modded it. I was going to mod it and had it opened and placed horizontally for several months. The problem occurred first when it froze and weird fuzzy lines came across the tv screen. I turned it just froze at the 360 logo. When I turned it on after that, it worked fine for several hours and then froze again with the weird lines coming across the screen again. I turned it on multiple times after that but it kept freezing at the 360 logo before the dashboard and kept making this odd high pitched sound. However, the lights never flashed red and I never got an error code so I don't know what the problem is. Now when I turn it on, only the green light comes on on the power button, the controller powers on but doesn't connect and there is no output on the television. My dvd drive will still open and close though. Anyway, I would really appreciate it if someone had any suggestions on what the problem is and how I could fix it. More than likely, it can't be fixed but I have nothing to lose by trying.
I have an update. My 360 is working again but I don't know for how long. Maybe the issues will eventually just lead to the 3 red lights. If anyone has any solution to how I could prevent the 3 red lights, then I would appreciate it if you could share. Thanks!
your console is now out of warranty so your only option would be to do the x-clamp replacement. But that is no guarantee and hard to say how long it would work.
Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

What do you mean not rrod and the gpu is almost done? They don't wear out. Failures of a gpu are typically shorts, heat damage, or cold solder joints. Any one of them will most likely produce a RROD.
the gpu is almost done... done being connected to the board properly.
@OP, sounds like some ram or gpu points are failing. You should reflow. As stated above the xclamp will probally work but reflow will be more reliable. Whatever you do DONT wrap it with a towel or run a heat gun all over the board!!!!!!! That will ruin it.
Or he could try sending it back to microsoft. What's the worst that could happen? Them saying nope sorry it's to old? Just claim it rrods on you occasionally and they might let it slide through. As for the case being opened if they do accept it for repair just buy a new warranty sticker from eBay(assuming yours is ruined).

ALSO, DO NOT SEND ME MESSAGES ON LIVE REGARDING MODDING CONSOLES, OR HOW I PLAYED A CERTAIN GAME EARLY. I WILL NOT RESPOND. I WILL INSTEAD DELETE YOUR MESSAGE, AND BLOCK ALL COMMUNICATION FROM YOU. JUST SEND ME A PM ON HERE.
Thanks for the advice about reflow. I'm no technical expert so I think I'll wait until it gets the 3 red lights and then I'll try the reflow because I will have nothing to lose. My 360 is already open so might as well have a go but I will look up the reflow thing first. I don't really mind if I can't fix it because I played it a lot and have got nearly 3 and half years entertainment out of it.

you could try what wabash said but you will be without for a few weeks. about the reflow, I was referring to a profesional repair that would also require you to send it out but the success rate is fairly high. if you want to do a home reflow/repair then try the xclamp method mentioned earlier in this thread and detailed on llama.com/ Your box doesn't sound like its in terrible shape so you can probally get it working again for at least a little while.
My 360 just jammed again after I played it for about 5 mins. I haven't played it any other time since my last post. It still won't show the red lights which is annoying because I want to get the error code. Why does the x-clamp method not fix it permanently? Also, could I give the 360 to Microsoft opened and how much do they charge? I live in Ireland btw.
I spoke too soon. I turned it back on and 3 red lights. Turned it off and back on again and one red light. Error code is E 68. I'll look it up. I will send it back to Microsoft because any console not banned from xbox live, will be valuable.
