Gave the wii to someone, lets say to change it at the end off last year, im not quite sure what was done and its work fine since then, he threw in a couple off freebies with it now, the freebies dont work, however they are showing some scatches looks like they may just be damaged so going to try source replacements and use from what ive read image burn to recreate.
im sure the kids updated something a few weeks ago as some message came the screen cant quite recall but this was after they done a swap or could be just be a ,conicidence but not sure. the firmware is 3.3 this i do now so how do i find if this is the correct firmware or best firmware to the change that were done last year
how it was changed as the guys mobile down
has a chip been fitted ,homebrew software installed wiikey ,wii brick bloker or is that just , for testing like the abgx 360 soft ware as said going wrong in circles sorry if its all bit long winded im sure some senior post on hear could give me the correct places to start thank in advance to all

Your post doesnt make much sense pal, try again. Also your thread title is shit, the thread title should be relevant to the problem your having not "wii info required my heads in a spin".

What is the problem with you WII and what would you like to do to it?

It sounds like you just have the wii softmodded with the HomeBrew channel. There is a guide located here:

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/735325

This guide shows you how to install the homebrew channel and the WiiGator Backup Launcher 0.3 gamma etc, i think you would be better to have a look around in there as you already have the HomeBrew channel installed and some of the IOS's may need updating to be able to play newer games etc. :)

Sorry forgot to say that you need to follow the guide on the version 3.3 firmware you have :)

Do you use the WiiGator Backup Launcher 0.3 gamma to play the copy games? or do you just play them through the wii disc launcher?

It now sounds as if there has been a modchip installed inside your wii. Are these the games you already have that played fine but now they wont work? or is it that you have downloaded some new games from the internet and you have burned these to DVD and they are not working?

sorry again mate if im bombarding you with questions
If a modchip has been fitted ? is there any away to find out what type it is ?
or dose it not make any difference what type it is
do they require up dateing and are there any restrictions to LOOK for when using backups

Not quite sure what i can say hear so lets say when i got the wii back i got a few freebie games that worked fine but a few are not working now, maybe scratches but they are not that deep ,as said they done a swap with someone at school and then there was a message that came up from what i can recall asking to up date something?, on that disc or the wii when it was inserted.
However if i source replacements would like to know if there is anying look out for , that might cause things not to work and is there anything out there like the software called abgx 360 to test before useing image burn
thanks again

Dont worry about feeling like you are asking too many questions because you couldnt ask too many. The forum is a community for asking questions, gaining knowledge etc. :)

The only real way to find out what modchip has been installed in the wii is to physically take it apart to see what chip is in there or ask the person who fit it for you. Modchips can be updated via a DVD with the update on or with a USB programmer that has the update on, it depends on what make and model chip you have.

If you download ISO images of games from a reliable source then make sure they are the same region as your wii so if your wii is PAL then its better to just download the PAL games to play so you dont 'brick' your wii by accident, you can use a software program called WiiBrickBlocker that you can run to block games that have updates in them if you want to download and play NTSC games (games that are not your region).

Your best using ImgBurn to burn the wii ISO's to DVD and DVD-r verbatim brand are recommended and burn at 1x too so there is no errors on the disc, most modchips now are compatible with different brands as i use TDK.

There is no real way to test if the images work only by actually putting the game in and trying it.

Just to make sure you havent semi-bricked your wii etc, the wii is stil lfully fuctioning right?

ye the wii is still fully fuctioning its only some, games thats not loading /working ie refer to manual or clean disk that comes up
cant ask the person his mobile not working.

so i have a modchip?
if i was to open it up what details do i need to note

do Modchips need to be updated ? and what benifits are gained when up dated

ok got what WiiBrickBlocker can do

just a few more questions sorry
oh just looked up semi brick
the games the kids swapped if they have came from a different region and they press the update i could be in trouble is there any way i can check what region the came from

homebrew is a software needed to play backgames /down loaded games if your wii dose not have a mod chip fitted?
not quite sure if this would have been better
thanks again going look up more on this semi brick thing

You could simply take a picture of the chip with a digital camera if you have one then upload it back here so we can have a look and then tell you what brand and model it is.

All modchips should be updated in my opinion but nearly all of them have this feature to be able to update their firmware etc for the chip.

The benefits of updating the modchips is that they can fix bugs in the coding the chip uses so it works more efficient/better and also sometimes to support newer games that might cause a problem when playing or not even work so they cant be played, so it gaves better compatability for games.

To be able to check what region the games are then it does generally say in the torrents when downloading the games, also the WiiBrickBlocker software has another feature i quite like is that when you use the software you are able to add an ISO image and you can simply click on the read info button and that will tell you what region the game is and other information.

If the kids got a game from their friends and it was from a different region than that of your wii and they hadnt used the WiiBrickBlocker or some software that is similar and the game had an update in it and the kids ran the update so they were able to play the game then it could semi-brick the wii giving the wii reduced functionality or even fully bricking the wii making the wii useless. There are ways to fix a wii if it is semi-bricked but if it is fully bricked there is no fix for this at the moment.

If your wii doesnt have a modchip installed hen the HomeBrew channel is needed to be installed on the wii and relevant software installed through the HomeBrew channel to be able to play copy/backup games without a modchip, this is refered to the name as softmodding.

In my opinion i feel that an actual modchip installed inside the wii is a better option as its much easier to play the games as you just play them as an original and you dont have to install all the extra software which if your not all that well up on this kind of thing then you could do more harm than good.

Also with Nintendo always bringing out firmware updates for the wii then in the future you might not be able to play games with the wii being softmodded where as with an actual modchip at the moment they are currently undetectable by Nintendo. Nintendo always bring out new firmware to stop people from using unlicensed (HomeBrew) software and to stop people playing pirated games this way.

Hope this helps :)
