Hey all, new to the forums here and I've just been curious on my situation. I basically want to know how to deal with my situation which I'm about to explain, please read carefully, and thanks for your time!
I had a clean system menu 3.4 and did nothing but use Homebrew Channel with GeckoOS for game cheats. About a month ago I installed the following so I could install/uninstall WADs on 3.4:
- IOS16-64-v257-prod.wad
- cios_fix.wad (installed by using wadmanagerios16)
- IOS Downgrader v1.0
It ended up being successful. It unblocked the 3.4 patches while remaining on System Menu 3.4. I then proceeded to install a custom made Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World WAD onto my Wii and that worked too.
Before I updated to 4.0, I wanted to install DVDx and CIOS rev7 or 8 for Backup Launcher (whichever one of those comes with it) and other numerous DVDx media apps (MPlayer). I got fed up at stuff not working (most likely due to a corrupted SD Card, and confusing different methods)so I just forgot about it.
Though I did install IOS60 because I read that it would allow me to move and play games off the SD Card in 4.0, and it did. I then updated to 4.0
My questions are:
Was installing IOS60 a bad move?
Is it too late to install DVDx on 4.0 (is the latest 3.4 install blocked?) Will I have to wait for a 4.0 install?
Is it too late to install CIOS for Backup Launcher, is that blocked too? If not, will I have to install DVDx for it, and have to uninstall that cios_fix.wad (since it said to uninstall all CIOS files before installing CIOS, so does cios_fix.wad count?)
You cannot install DVDx on a wii with firmmware 4.0 at the moment, if it was previously installed on a lower firmware and then you installed to firmware 4.0 then it will still work, your other questions im not too sure about, if you have a search in the forum there are a few threads on the version 4.0 firmware which you should be able to find your answers also try here:
Well, I just made a post about DVDx and I got my question answered here...so thanks by the way.
And well...IOS60 was not a bad move at all...I installed it on mine and everything works great: I can install wads and move them to SD and they work flawlessly.
And as of other stuff...if you didn't install CIOSv7/8 then you can't do it as of now on 4.0 (as far as I know). I installed the cios_fix.wad on 3.4 and CIOSv7 and everything works great on the new firmware...I can install wads, run backup launcher, etc...but DVDx is not installable as of right now (and I'm so dumb, I could've installed it before upgrading, but NoooOOooo...I had to upgrade and then remember DVDx....).

Well...I haven't installed the v9, since my backup launcher works with no problems, so I can't give you a definitive answer there. But you don't need DVDx for game backups...DVDx is for movie DVDs and VCDs and stuff like that.
And as far as GC goes, you'll need the GC launcher or a modchip...I don't see GC support among backup launcher's (Gamma 0.3) features.

A few more things, do you think if I installed CIOSrev9 on my 4.0, would I be able to use backup launcher? And, do you need DVDx for backup launcher?
Can you add GCN suppor to backup launcher without using the seperate GC Backup Launcher app?
if you installed either ver7 or ver8 before upgrade then you can install ver 9. Otherwise you have to wait untill somebody can crack 4.0.
and what so special about DVDx? just by playing DVD on the Wii or something else? i though this is only available in 3.2? not 3.4? so mostly not even available in 4.0.
