I just bought a rrod xbox for 50 bucks and fixed it so now I am wanting to unbrick my drive using the hotswap method but I have two questions.

1. Can this be done once I flash the 59 with the drive key from the 79.

2. If so how?

Sorry I would have looked for a post that might explain the same situation but come on does someone expect me to go through 478 pages.
Thanks in advance.

What do you mean by hotswap... like change out the PCB boards?

If the checksum was bad when flashing the Hitachi, that is why it's bricked. And the only way to recover that is to desolder the TSOP chip and use an external programmer.

Well this is what i don't understand myself. If I switch out the boards then I only have one usable drive. I have read where people have hotswapped the drives to get the bricked one to show up so you can reflash it. Am I wrong? This is why I asked because yet again I am new to this as well. Thanks for your help.

If the master checksum of the firmware wasn't set right, that is why the drive is bricked. I don't think swapping PCB boards can trick the computer to allow it to be flashed. Plus I don't think swapping a 59 and 79 PCB boards will work anyway.

Well it is your typical won't eject situation. I was in the middle of flashing it and JungleFlasher froze. Thats why I decided to do everything I can through Iprep. Can I use my 59 in my box that had a 79 in it? If I can then I will do that and buy a benq off of ebay (though thats not my thing) and use it to replace in the newly fixed box. The reason why I really want to fix it is because it is an elite and has HDMI so I can get true HD. Thanks for all your help as normal, you guys are great to keep helping folks like me.

as long as there both hitachis then it will work, i did that i was flashing 59, comp froze, bricked drive. as long as you have the drive key from the bricked drive, you can spoof any drive you want to it.

thats any Hitachi drive right? You can't spoof a samsung to work in a hitachi can you. I know a Benq will work and thats why they are the best ones to have. I will try to spoof it to work in my 79 then. Thanks for the help.

Ok I hate JungleFlasher with a passion. How do you flash the 59 drive with the 79 key? I have already spoofed it as it says it in the pic. But when I want to flash it it just brings me back to this same page. I am at a loss. I think I am on the right track but it is a little confusing. Any help would be appreciated.

I forgot to mention that I already have a hacked firmware with the key on the spoofed drive not flashed just ready to be flashed. I just can't get to an erase and write stage.

Which key is the key you want to use?

In the Jungle Flasher Tutorial for the Hitachi, there is a part completely dedicated to spoofing and flashing keys. That should guide you in the right direction.

Thats the one from my bricked 79 drive. the other is of course from the 59. I know it has to be the key from the 79 right in order for it to recognize it in the 360.

Open the firmware with the key you want to use in the source, then hit save drive key. Then go over to the Hitachi tab in the selection tab, click in the circle next to flash key sector and it should go ahead and dump the bin on there and then prompt you to load the key.bin. It should go ahead and flash the key sector. At that point you will need to switch you options flash spoof data and you will need to select the 79 and flash that. At this point you should have the drive key you want, info spoofed as 79, and the drive should have stock firmware. You can click flash iXtreme and it will do the rest for you.

Ok I did everything you said up to the point where I flash the drive and it says it can't load ixtreme 59.bin. This is the error I get.

Well I can thank JungleFlasher for my first bricked drive and now I can thank toolbox 4.8 for my second. Was in the middle of flashing my newly spoofed drive when all of a sudden in the middle it quits responding.

Thanks Microsoft and Thanks JF and Toolbox for messing up two drives both Hitachis which are nothing but a pain in my ass. I will from now on only mess with BenQ drives and nothing else. I have the keys to both drives but they are usless unless you desoder the chip or whatever you have to do to fix these garbage drives. The hell with all of them. Hitachis suck and i will buy only benq drives from now on.

Also Iprep is the only way to go. Its straight and to the point. Its the onlything that hasn't froze up in the middle of flashing. Please delete this thread as it was a waste of time for someone to read it.

Sorry about the drives ThePit. I do agree with you on the issue of the Hitachis. They don't support bad flash recovery and that can be a pain. But I do think you will have a lot better luck with the BenQ as it is reliable, supports bad flash, quieter, and faster than the Hitachis.

Well thanks for the all your help. You have always answered on all my posts and tried to help the best way you can. I have had no problems with the samsungs or benq's but for some reason JF and Toolbox 4.8 do not like them. I guess I will have to break down and get a Benq off of e-bay. Do you know if the ones from China are ok cause I had read that they are just replicas that they are not really Micrsoft cert, or should I go with a USA company and spend more. Thanks again for everything. I will probably be asking about how spoof the benq to hitachi 79 and 59 since I have xboxes without drives now.

I would just go with a USA company. You will get the drive a lot quicker and will be the official BenQ VAD6038. To spoof a BenQ as Hitachi, Just load the original Hitachi firmware in source, do not autoload. Go ahead and open the ix1.51 firmware for BenQ in the target and click spoof. Save file and go to MTKFlash tab and flash.

Ok thats sounds pretty easy. Can I not use Iprep after i spoof the drive and then load the ixtreme for the benq or do i not understand the whole spoofing thing. I thought it just made the drive look like a hitachi so the firmware would not matter. I'll go with what you say though as you have more exp than me. Thanks.

The Benq's are all the same. The people selling them in the US just import them from China. Which is where the 360 is made. There are no Benq's made in the US.

So your only benefit from buying from a US seller is a cut in wait time. But on the other hand, the US sellers usually charge more.

Thats what I figured since nothing is made in America. My parents are in China right now and when they first got there they went on a factory tour. They came across one paticular area and they were making "made in the usa" stickers. Americans are so cheap and lazy. Whats sad is I am an American and i am unemployed thanks these jackasses. I will just get the one off of e-bay for 26 bucks and 4 dollars shipping. I think it will take two weeks for it to get here but oh well. Thanks for you input.
