Ok so I just ordered a replacement benq drive for my 360 because
the current drive is acting up, the drive tray will close on its own.

The current drive is flashed with ixtreme 1.51 and I have that and the
drives original firmware backed up on my pc.

So I wanted to make sure my method below is
the correct way to go about this - I do plan to take this machine
on live.

I was going to dump the new drives firmware with iprep (thats what
I flashed the existing drive with), boot into windows and
replace the dvd key in the new drives hacked firmware
(made with the dben 1234567 12345 command) with the dvd key
from the original drives firmware.
Then boot back into dos, and flash the new drive with the hacked firmware which now contains the old drives dvd key.

Do I need to put anymore information besides the dvd key from the old drives
firmware into the new drives firmware ? Or is the dvd key all I need ?

Thanks

If you have the your custom ix1.51 firmware(with your dvd key), just flash that to the new drive. I personally wouldn't use iPrep but that is up to you. If you have the original firmware, I would go ahead and use Jungle Flasher.

1. Load original firwmare.
2. JF will autoload ix1.51 and spoof for you.
3. Go to MTKFlash tab and click device ID.
4. Power cycle when prompted and return 0x73 status
5. Click write.

BenQ firmware is BenQ firmware. Only thing that would matter is if it was a 62430 firmware version or 64930 firmware version. Really the only important thing is to make sure the firmware is spoofed with the proper data. Your drive key needs to go on to the new drive.

All you need to do is flash that ix1.51 firmware to the new drive. It contains your key, inquiry, identify, and serial data that is specific to the 360 you are using. If you ordered the drive from somewhere, it will probably contain a different drive key, but you don't need to worry about that.

The one thing you will need to compare between the 2 drives is the stock firmware revision. If both are the same go ahead and flash, if they are different, you will need to spoof some data.

The new drive was delivered today, I dumped its firmware and compared its stock firmware revision to the original drives.
They were identical so I went ahead and flashed the new drive with the backup of the 1.51 iextreme with the dvd key from the original drive.

Every thing seems to work well so far.

Now if only I could stop my kitten from stalking and attacking the 360's drive tray everytime I eject it...

Use a squirt gun and every time your kitten attacks the DVD tray, spray some water on it (the kitten, not the Xbox). Normally, kittens learn pretty fast.

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

You need to use jf.
first flash your new BenQ drive without replacing the key or anything just flash it.
second go into windows with the BenQ on and hooked up and launch jf.
third dump the firmware off of the BenQ drive and load in the old firmware from your BenQ into the bottom half of the main screen in jf. then select the spoof source to target.
now go into the MTKFlash tab, put the drive in vendor mode, erase the fw off of it then click write, once it writes sucesfully (might take a few tries, if it fails just erase and try again) then select the outro command to take it out of vendor mode and power cycle and your all set!

Brett: With what firmware ? iextreme 1.51 ?

second go into windows with the BenQ on and hooked up and launch jf.
Brett: the new Benq right ?

I appreciate the help but what is point in doing all that when I already flashed to the new drive the 1.51 extreme firmware from the old drive with its key already inserted ?
That is what Leerage advised as long as the stock firmware revisions of the 2 drives matched and they did.
Thanks to all who helped!
