Is there a way to easily disconnect the antenna from the Wii so it cannot connect to a wireless network?

My son has been using it to go online against my wishes so I locked it. He has found out that if you call them, they will give you a code to unlock it (I'm surprised they'd give it to a kid). Anyway, after locking it and him unlocking it a number of times, I want to disconnect the antenna completely.

Thanks

None of my business but if that was my kid he would no longer have a wii.

Why not log into your router and turn off the wireless. Or block out the wii?

I once spoke to someone on here who was trying to do that, but when the antenna was disconnected he found that the wiimotes stopped working.

I'm not sure why keeping him offline is such a big deal, but if you really wish to do so then the simplest way would be to set a WEP or WPA security key on your wireless router and change its password so he cant get into the settings to see it.

You should all be ashamed of yourselves. Taking away the wii, disabling the wireless, parental controls....tisk tisk.

You overlook the most obvious solution. The Wii has done nothing to deserve such treatment. Give your child up for adoption, and you can continue playing your wii uninterrupted.

Honestly though, if your kid doesn't listen to you when you say don't go online, what will happen when you tell him not to steal or to treat women with respect? Your son shouldn't disobey you (period). The Wii is functioning as advertised.

PS: why does he have unmonitored phone privileges?

I'm going to leave the parenting adivce out of it.

Here's some other technical alternatives.

Turn MAC filtering in the router and do not allow the Wii to connect.

Change the security code for wireless access and lock him out of out the router.

If you look at your router settings Id think you could ban the Wii's IP from access to the netwowrk if you set it to a static internal IP if your router lets you in there.

Not looking for parenting help, just trying to disconnect the antenna.

Unfortunately, he is connecting to a neighbor's wireless. I have my wireless locked down. I've got a couple of neighbors with unsecured wireless but can't convince them to let me change their routers.

Thanks,

Ooooohhhh, then you do have a problem unless you get a signal jammer, similar to the ones that block cell phone service. Of course, that would negate your own wireless network as well.

Do you think maybe he disconnected something he should not have? I was under the impression that the wiimotes are blutooth and the controller for them is in front, close to the sd card reader.

Since your console has a unique serial number to it, I would call the Big N and see if this information is related to an account, much like a cell phone company or my DirecTV, you would need a passphrase or special authorization to make changes or get passwords, etc. Just a thought.

Thanks,
tell them your son is leeching off their internet. depending on what ISP they have, your son can max out their monthly bandwidth cap. then, they'll be wondering why they can't go on the internet all of a sudden.

if all else fails, take the wii, and get out the good old belt. (/sarcasm)

Pretty sure signal jammers are highly illegal, and probably not the easiest and cheapest way.

I say take away the Wii or the power supply, its the easiest solution. You've tried locking down your router, and since your kid has physical access to the router, he can hard reset it to default settings and get in anyway. If you want to remove the wii's wifi, you gotta get inside and physically remove the card and wire antenna by unsoldering it. Not the best option.

If your neighbor's access is in the clear, just get into their router and make the changes yourself. If they're ignorant enough not to encrypt their traffic, then they probably left their admin password as the default (which normally is "admin"). After a few of these "hacks", they'll probably get the point.

that is invasion of privacy..you can go to jail with that...just show them that you can get into their router change the configuration as well as hack to their computer..so who would dare to still open up their WIFI router?....Just tell them you are a concern citizen....
