Compatability matrix shows some Asus boards having compatible SATA Controllers. My board has the Intel ICH8 SATA controller chipset. With this board I have 6 SATA ports, only 2 being used.

Will I still need to get a VIA SATA card (such as VIA VT6421 PCI Card
) or am I all set? Couldn't find anything related to my specific board in the compatability specs.

Thanks!

you have some options here.... just try your onboard and if it works then great.... if it doesn't then the card is less than 20 bucks. You could just buy the card and not worry about it. I think some people have used intel chipsets with mixed results.

My ICH7 chipset didn't work. I had to get the VIA 6421.

Thanks so much for the feedback, glad to see others with a similar setup have tested the waters. Don't want to risk damaging anything. I will go ahead and order the VIA card then, found one on Newegg that has a lot of reviews from 360 flashers.

hmm less than 25 posts and you know all there is to know? wow, we really need more people like around and then i dont have to respond to anything ever again. not all motherboards have the option to change your SATA to ide and not enhanced. I would know, ive built over 30 computer systems with over 20 different motherboards.

The guys on here give excellent advice and saved me hundreds of £££. I'm sure even if you are correct there are more polite was of saying it than that.
