Hi, I recently bought XBOX360 Elite
the store modded my XBOX so I could play burn games and so on..(with this Iextreme i suppose)
At first I tried to watch burned movies (in Xvid, divx format and so on)
but it returned an error saying it doesn't support the selected format and i gotta update.
I tried to update through XBOXLIVE and it worked for some movies..
What im trying to say is that if some one can give a "PIMP MY XBOX360" answer..
so I could watch movies such as these formats (and not via computer..)
I understand I cant store files on hard disk but at least so I could use just a DVD disc to watch the movies without getting the computer involved each time..with good codecs.
and even maybe if someone knows how to watch movies with separated subtitles.
Thanks ahead!

all you can do is burn them to disc and play them with the subs hardcoded into the video not a separate file. or you can put them on a usb drive and plug into the 360. or network to your PC
in any event you are going to have to use the PC to either burn a disc, transfer to USB drive, or network.
If you send me questions on Live about modding or anything related i will block you. Dont be an idiot.

So if I put a movie , for example "FastFurious4.avi" I can add a separated sub "FastFurious4.srt" on a USB drive and it will work?
and I download a movie with the computer, burn it on a DVD disc..but some formats arent supported..what i ment was can I add codecs or anything beside the first simple xboxlive update you get for free..cause its not enough

no subs will not work if they are a separate file at all. they have to be in the video file as part of the video itself. there are no other codecs for 360.
the only thing i have seen that may be of help is how to get subs inogm files to play on 360 http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/...on_xbox_360.cfm but impretty sure it envolves extracting some bs and then inserting the subs into the video file. i havent tried myself cause it just looked like too much hassle and would be easier to just watch via my pc or output to the tv without the 360 involved at all

Yeah, I had a little ray of hope that the 360 would act like my old XBOX 1..I suppose i should let some DVD player do what it knows to do best..so XBOX360 is pretty much for games only..and just to put them on disc not HD..I hope it will change in time..
Thanks for the info

it probably wont. i think MS is trying to prevent people from putting copyrighted content on the HDD as far as video content goes. kinda odd they will let you rip music though.
As long as you dont have a separate subtitle file and it is in a format the 360 can read then using a usb stick works well. I download old episodes of tv shows all the time, just slap them on my 2gb usb stick and they play great.

I use my 360 as a Media Centre Extender for my PC. I have my 360 hooked up to a router with dd-wrt FW on it so it connects to my other wifi router and connects to my network. Pc is wirelessly connected to the same network and my "downloads" folder is shared. I can use my 360 to browse my downloads folder and play and downloaded Xvid or Divx files. Works great and is in HD. no subs unless hardcoded though :(

I was wondering how your resolution looks if you're running it from a pc. I'm assuming you're at 1920x1080 on an lcd or plasma. how does it look? gloating is welcome :)
