With the loss of all the premium channels that moved to the nagra 2 stream , do you think its the case that the CC plan to avoid as much cost by targeting card changes to those who subscribe to the premium channels and hence the cost of replacing old boxes that may not handle the eventual move to Nagra 3 ie

Stream Nagra 1 stay with all basic digital (Hence no card swap/HArdware
Stream NAgra 2 Premium subscribers (card swap)
Stream Nagra 3 Premium subscribers (card swap and box to handle changeover)

My thinking is that this way they limit their changeover costs.Would anybody agree with this?

My dads on basic digital and he recieved a card, I hop they keep the N2 stream going, I still don't fully understand why they have it at all and not just use N1 and N3 and take longer to do the changeover

You would wonder why, its very curious but perhaps they had hoped that the N2 would have been enough ,god knows what system is used for charging ,they may be charged a hell of a lot more for the N3 cards , so it might be likely its least used more saved...who knows..

They maintain they want no unauthorised access to their system that implies a total swap to N3. They are a company with deep pockets Id imagine it'll be a complete change. Also I dont think the individual cards are where the cost is rather the licence to use the encryption. So they have paid to licence the encryption, for the sake of the cost of a few thousand cards it'd be stupid to not go all the way.

Thats the problem with here of late, too many people making assumptions based on Chinese whispers. Not getting at your thread suse as its the only one that caught my eye............the rest are full of the usual rubbish :(

What people should be looking at is not just UP* in relation to the migration method, but look at Kudelski's latest business model, then you will see how and what way it may well go . Sorry but that is all I will post on their planning methods as this place is like a walking newspaper for them ;(

its ok scouser , the reason for the thread was my way of trying to get more information to allow me to plan my setup for the future , as im currently have an mmds setup and motorized sat, not really pushed on the the premium channels , so the way i was looking at it is if all the channels are moved to nagra3 then thats my mmds gone for the moment with my terrestrial stations gone so i may have to invest in a cam for DTT to get the terrestrial and rely and the sat for the bbc and utvs etc, so i know its wait and see but it wont stop me hoping that all the channels dont go so i can leave the setup alone but as you know doing your homework is always a good thing...

Thanks
