Hi Guys,

I have an odd issue..

I bought the 360 a good while back , it came with an ms25 sammy drive, After finding this forum I promply flashed said drive and I was playing backups no probs..

At the time I think it was exteme 3 I started with and flashed up to around 4 or 5 and all of a sudden after an updated flash this drive would not play any backups...It would play any origonal but no backups no matter if it was a verbatim back up or not..

So I bought a replacment drive from ebay and flashed it and it was fine played anything origonals or backups and is now flashed with the new Ixtreme 1.51 FW and is playing fine..

So I wondered if I was to flash the moody origonal drive with the latest hacked FW would it make a recovery and play a backup so I tried..

It flashed without a problem and will play an origonal with no problems, but still wont play a backup...

Can anyone think why this would be? could it have a temperemental lazer or something that makes it hard to read a verbatim backup?

I would appreciate any thoughts..

Regards as ever
:-)

Backup disks are harder to read for the laser than originals, so it might be that the laser on the old drive is dying.
You could try a pot tweak (forum search), it might help, or try to clean the laser lens.

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

Thanks Eisherz

I think you may be right..That drive has some play when we got it, the kids were on it night and day with their friends and it did work out...

It will maybe handy to keep in the cupboard as a spare if all else fails one day..

Im not to keen on opening the drives I dont have the steadiest of hands or the best of vision lol

Thanks again. :-)

4 or 6 screws on the sides of the drive, then the top opens. You might have to press in 2 little black notches. You'll see the laser plain as day. Q-tip & alcohol then.
Thanks again. :-)

4 screws to get the the lens...pretty easy and he's right, it is clear as day once you open the lid. replacing the lens is probably more difficult, but i used some rubbing alcohol on a q-tip on my lens and that was easy...even though it didn't fix my problem :(

good luck.

Thanks Guys,

I just looked on ebay and see they are selling ms25 drives from hong kong for £17 nowadays I think i was £40 when I bought mine so its not going to be too expensive to buy a spare drive..

I will give the lazer a q-tip clean as suggested but fear its probably on its last legs..

Does anyone by chance know what the expected life of a flashed ms25 that gets played daily would be on avarage?

Thanks again

Ms 25 to 28 sammy's are about the hardest to break, brick, or destroy in your case. They even trump the new Lite-on's as they can backup games. So in your case, the drive must really have been put through hell.
