If your using USB Loader 1.1 then yes you need a thumb drive or USB HDD drive. Adapters for Micro SD and SD Cards will not work.

I went finally got my 1tb hardive partioned i partioned 50 gb for wii storage now i'm trying to backup a game tried quantum of solace and need for speed undercover. i tried quantum of solice it works but when it asks you to create a restore point it freezes, also sometimes during the backup process when putting it on the hard drive it either gets stuck around 44% or 80% then then takes forever.. could it be because i burned theses games at 8x?

I am not sure how you backup your games i dont undertand why it you it asking "create a restore point". Is the Wii asking this(loader)?

How do you back up? which version of USB loader are you using? where you succesful using other usb media or other games?

I had some of the same issues when ripping the game using the Wii DVD drive. It really isn't a reliable way to do it.

I would suggest ripping the game ISO to your PC then use a program like WBFS Manager 2.1 which you can get HERE to transfer the ISO from PC to HDD. It will usually take 8 to 10 minutes to rip the game to the PC but will only take a few minutes or less to transferring it to the HDD.

In the long run I think this is the way to go. Seems more reliable and I have not had any issues transferring from PC to HDD. But when ripping from Wii DVD drive to HDD I had nothing but problems.

More then likely you have an out of region game of Undercover.

This happens if you have a USA Wii system and use a PAL version of the game.

To rectify this get a NTSC(U) version of the game or you can try using this updated tweak of USB Loader 1.1 which is USB Loader 1.1s HERE. This is supposed to make Import compatibility better.

Just to let you know Undercover works fine for me.

You do not format the WFBS partition. Windows will say it needs formated and ask to format it just choose NO.

So what your saying is you have the backup ISO you want to transfer to the WFBS partiton on the 1TB drive?

The PC should be giving a drive letter for both partitons on the 1TB drive (Example: F: for NTFS partiton/G: for WBFS partiton).

You have drive C: and drive D:

You said drive D: is an extra drive. Is this a drive inside the computer or is this 1 of the Partitions on the 1TB drive?

More then likely you reallocated 50GB for the WBFS partition but never set the parameters for the partition so windows can assign it a drive letter.

All partitions should be assigned a drive letter. So the 1TB drive should have 2 drive letters assigned to it. One for the NTFS partition and 1 for the partition that has the WBFS file system on it. I have a feeling drive F: is the NTFS partition which is why wbfs manager is saying it needs to be formated.

Do the below steps to assign a drive letter to the WBFS file system parttion...

Go to Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management/Storage/Disc Management

Now look at the drives in the list. Find the USB HDD device which should have letter F: for the NTFS partition. See if there is a 50GB partition on the 1TB USB device that has no drive letter assigned to it. If this is the case then right click on the 50GB partition section and choose to do a simple partition (I think that is what it is called). Make sure when going through the setup you choose not to format the partition (do not let it format the WBFS partition). This should set up the parameters of the WBFS Partition and assign it a drive letter.

Now use the newly assigned drive letter in wbfs manager.

So when this is done you should have something similar to...

C: MAIN
D: Extra Drive
E: CD/DVD ROM
F: USB HDD NTFS Partition
G: USB HDD WBFS Partition

Keep in mind once you get the PC to recognize the partition that has the WBFS file format on it. When you plug in the USB Drive it will say it needs to be formated and ask you if you want to format it now. Choose NO when it asks if you want to format it.
