hey i did search and found some mix answers. my question is do u need a specific drive to rip 360 games onto your comp so u can burn them. or can u just have a regular dvd drive to read the 360 games? on the tutorial i found here it didnt mention a specific drive needed to read the 360 games. on other sites it did and something about kreon firmware?
please give me a straight up answer with some details explaining
The samsungDVD-ROM model SH-D162C is the drive i use to rip 360 games,it has the kreon flash software installed, then using xbox backup creator (free) to rip the game to hdd, be sure to run it through abgx360 then use imgburn to burn the iso, there is another samsung drive that can be flashed as well but i can't remember the model of it,that's pretty much all you need to get a good working copy, apart from a dual layer burner & verbs.
Actually, there are 3 other Samsung models:
SH-D162C (already mentioned)
SH-D162D (the one I have)
SH-D163A
SH-D163B
These drives aren't produced anymore, so the only way to find them for a reasonable price is ebay.
There are other methods of ripping games, one is the WX-ripper method where you replace a VideoDVD with a game (google for a tutorial, I have never tried this because you have to take the dvd drive apart) and the 0800 method where you add 0800 support to your Xbox 360 drive so it gets recognized by windows. The downside of this is that everytime you want to rip a game you have to take apart your Xbox.
And by the way, I wouldn't recommend imgburn to burn the games, I use clonecd. Plus it is easier to burn the .dvd file that comes with the games as an image, then you don't have to manually set the layer break and stuff. Just make sure you don't change any names and that the .dvd and the .iso are in the same folder.
One last thing: Make sure you get DVD+R DL Verbatim media, preferable those made in Singapore. These are the best media out at the moment for burning games. Also you mustn't stick to the 2.4x burn speed, most Verbatims out there support up to 8x speed. Burning too slow can produce errors.
Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.
