All right, then I have a serious problem, I have a Sony DVD RW DRU-510A which connects via USB. It has the capability to read a DVD at 32x, and write 24x....Yet, it only reads and writes at .6X, not 6X, But, .6!
Could it be the fact of my slow computer, I am running Windows XP at 700 MHZ with 192 MB of memory?
Hi Raven,
I thought your speeds were a little wrong so this is the data I got off the site
SONY DRU-510A DVD±RW
Write speeds.
DVD-R: 1/2/4 X CLV
DVD-RW: 1/2 X CLV
DVD+R: 2.4/4 X CLV
DVD+RW: 2.4/4 X CLV
CD-R: 24x, 20x, 16x, 12x (Z-CLV), 4x (CLV)
CD-RW:10x, 16x (CLV)
Read speeds (max).
DVD-ROM: 12 X CAV
You must understand a USB port is not as fast as internal DVD-Rom drive. Is your USB port a 1.1 or a 2.0 usb port? Yes you are a little low on your ram it is really better to use 512 ram. 700 MHZ is also marginal but it will work. If you had a P4 then I would say your IDE is set to PIO and you need to change it to DMA Mode. The slow speed is probably due to your USB Port
A hundred bucks and my left nut you're running the burner on USB 1.1.
To check whether your drive is running on 1.1 or 2.0 try this:
Device Manager>expand Universal Serial Bus controllers, then check if any say "Enhanced". 2.0 controllers are listed as enhanced and if none are labeled that way then you are running 1.1 and hence your .6 speeds.
If this is the case, you can buy a $20 USB 2.0 PCI card that should do the trick for your burner.
