hi.. just a little help here,

I have my wii with wiikey updated to version 1.9 but i havn't update my wii system yet.

I am just wondering if i update my wii system through the wifi will i damage/screw up my wii key and unable to play the backup copies? has anyone tried it?

System updates will most likely not effect a hardware mod. Updating will kill your HomeBrew but your WiiKey will be fine.

sorry, what do you mean by "homebrew"? does that mean that i can't play my backups?

HomeBrew is things such as Emulators, game ports such as Quake, and media players.

so, if I have a bakup game and then when I insert it into my wii and get a "wii system update" logo where the games picture should be, it's okay to select the "wii system update" option? and by okay I mean safe.

It is safe to update the system from a game as long as that game is the same region as your wii, if you try updating the wii from a game that is NTSC and your wii is PAL you will most likely brick your wii so it is better to stay with a PAL game if your wii is PAL etc.
