Hi everyone,
I am very new here, I apologize if this question has been asked a
million times, but this site is huge and I just keep getting more
confused looking for the info I'm trying to find.

I had dvd x coply platinum for years, I know its gone now. What is the best software out there right now to rip dvd's that are protected
as in purchased. I can't afford to buy all the ones my son wants and
dvd's save our life, he has autism and loves movies.

I have heard about dvdfab platinum, Imgburn and, 1Click DVD Copy PRO
Are any of these recommended by you guys? I have Windows xp professional vers 2002. I am not very technical, sorry!

Just a Mom looking for a way to burn dvd's from the library really!

Any help would be so appreciated, I can pay for the software if its
not too expensive, I just want to know which is the best!

Thank you!!!!!!!!!
Donna

And which library would this be? If it is your public library then none of the methods offered here will work for you.

Well xcopy worked with movies from the local public library. But really just to burn movies that you would buy I guess you would say.
Movie sharing with friends is economical too. ;)

Is there anything out there that is like dvd x copy now???

Thank you,
Donna

Okay great, so to back up one of my currently owned dvd's I would need to do something like this.

1 download DVDFab HD Decrypter and use that first

2 Download DVD Shrink use this second (or buy DVDFab and use this
instead of the free DVD Shrink

and then burn with something like Imgburn or nero burnig rom (which
I already have)

Does this look at all correct?

I think you would find that almost everyone who uses DVDFab, also uses FixVTS as well (some use VobBlanker but it can be a little more complex albeit much more powerful), after ripping and before processing with DVD Shrink. This will help to "clean up" any errors that DVDFab may have left behind that would give DVD Shrink some fits. This program is also free and very simple to use.

Just one more thing if I may, does anyone here reading this thread
like/use the 1Click DVD Copy PRO???

If so do you like it, and as I was wonderinging earlier does it
replace some of the above programs?

It's advertised to me as though it does it all.

Thank you!!!!

I have never used that program, however if you want my opinion, if you wish to purchase a program I would go with DVDFab Platinum. It can be an all in one if you desire.

Try these programs and keep them in your "toolbox".

For ripping:
DvdFab HD Decrypter
Ripit4me and Dvd Decrypter
***Ripit and Dvd Decrypter are no longer updated but I have had NO PROBLEMS using them even with the newest movies, there was a new release recently that DvdFab HD Decrypter couldn't do and Ripit did it, I can't remember the name of the movie. Ripit runs the movie through FixVTS automatically. Ripit4me may be very hard to find now but I still have it.

For editing, shrinking etc.:
Dvd Shrink (no longer updated but very useful in ways)
VobBlanker (excellent program, but may be a little intimidating when first learning how to use it, extremely useful!)

For burning:
Imgburn
or whatever burning software you prefer

I used to use DvdXcopy Gold until a few years ago. I switched to these programs listed above at that time. Everyone of these programs that I listed are FREE!!! No trial period or anything. Just plain free to use for as long as you like!!! I did try DvdXcopy a couple of months ago on the new Madagascar Africa movie and it had no problems backing that one up. I was surprised!

Not a fan of this program. Not when programs like DvdFab and AnyDVD are out there.

You're better off with one (if not both) of the big two.

Dvd Fab5 Plat. works wonders for backing up any movie.. even new movies.. It decodes it shrinks it and puts any size movie on a dvd5.. in like 15 to 20 mins.. depending of course how old your computer is.. I use a dual core intel 2.8 with vista32 and it does most movies in under 15mins.. bigger ones take a little longer.. Just to give u an idear of this program i tried all sorts of ways of copying my 310 to yuma movie but nothing could decode it nor put it on a dvd5.. its a huge movie.. DVD fab5 plat. did the whole deal in 15 mins! Perfect!

Keep em Burning.

Mystic67:
I have recently purchased 1 Click DVD after having used Dvd Fab 5 which I enjoy using from time to time. I have used RipIt4me, and have used AnyDVD with Shrink, burning by Nero. I often try different ones from time to time, but I really enjoy 1-Click. I feel in my case, it rips faster and cleaner, and it offers more options in terms of ripping, such as movie only, movie with extras, and so forth. Of course, the price for the Pro is a little costly, but I have found it to be one that I could count on all the time. I do find, however, that the Fab 5 seems to work better and more often than the others. I don't think you can really go wrong with either one.
