ive just updated my liteon to 1.51.
i used jungleflasher 1.55b it said that it will get all the serials key identify and inquirey automatic. everything seemed to be ok untill it crashed while erasing the old firmware.

then when i rebooted nothing would regester and the serials were gone from the folder i saved them to.(sweaty palms!!!!)
lucky i had all of the serials saved from the first time i flashed the drive with 1.5.
eventually i got it to vendor mode when i clicked the ata reset button and power cycled the drive.

my question is if i did not have the serials saved would it have been bricked?
and as long as i have the serials am i safe from bricking the drive?
ie: can i allway´s reset to vendor mode no matter what, and then reload the serials and firmware?

tahnks a lot
all the best

yes, as far as repairing it yourself... there was a guy on here the other day who claimed for $50 he could fix it even without the drive key and whatnot... i'm a bit skeptical on that one but w/e

i would say so yes.. even if the erase fails you can just erase it again... eventually it will erase properly..

Go ahead and email your dummy bin to yourself ;). Only way you can brick a Lite-ON is to put the power plug in upside down or spark the drive somehow.

I would go ahead and email those also. But the dummy bin is the most important.

you can.. but for the sake of flexibility i would save everything .. and make double backups of it all... very important information...

when i update to 1.6 when it comes out.
im thinking i should just erase the drive first so i have a clean slate to work on rather than loading the serials straight from the liteon drive into jungle flasher it would seem to be an easier way of doing it, putting less load on my pc (maybe it wont crash and nearly give me a heart attack this time round) seeing as i allready have the serial and dummy bin files.

thats a cool idea of emailing the files to yourself as a back up.

Use dosflash 1.7 to flash your drive and l-o-eras.exe to erase the lite-on in DOS.

Works everytime and never makes you think you bricked a Lite-on.

this is exactly how i do it and imho the only way worth doing it... ya use jungleflasher to build the CFW, then load it along with dosflash onto a bootable flash drive...

boot from the flash, run the erase command... a few times if ya have to until ya get the right code... then flash the drive... really its quite simple and painless... although could be tricky if you're doing it for the first time.

exactly the same way but i use jungle flasher to erase the drive and then dosflash to write firmware as i have in the past tried to use lo erase and got invalid status just my preference
