the xbox 360 i have plays cd/dvds fine all the time but always and with every game i try it shows the please insert disk into a xbox 360 console to play.i think the xbox 360 is missing the the info that tells the system that the disk drive is capable of playing games this xbox was given to me along with two others because they did not work. there was only one system that turned on and let You get to the main menu but every disk was unreadable i found out that the drive was not spinning the disks because it appeared to be stuck so i took one of the disk drives from the other two consoles and placed it in this one and now it reads cds and dvds but just does not recognize that the drive is capable of reading xbox 360 games i tried updating the system hoping it would replace that missing info but it did not. does any one know how to make the xbox 360 able to play xbox 360 games again. the system i am speaking of was not tampered with i just removed the old nonworking drive and put a new tested working one in its place. This means that you havnt got your drive key flashed to your new drive. Every xbox drive has firmware which contains a key to match your drive to your xbox
Firstly, what is the model of your old & new drive, if its the same you should be able to flash your new drive with your old key. If not you will have to spoof your old drives firmware.
Basically, let us know exactly what make and model your old and new driver are and we will be able to tell you what you need to do.
you ned to get the serial numbers from the original drive and flash them to the replacement drive.
it wont work unless the serial numbers are the same on the motherboard and the drive.

thats the thing i took a working one out of a system that was given to me. i was given 3 broken xbox 360 only one xbox booted and let u go threw the menu but EVERY disk was unreadable i found out the reason why was that the drive was not spinning the disks, i think it was a samsung, out of the 3 xbox 360 i got a Hitachi drive, a toshiba/samsung drive, and a newer one i thinkl its called beng or some thing. the system that works had the bad samsung drive so i put the beng one in and it plays every thing but games, now would it work if i fixed the samsung drive and put it back in? because the lubricant on the motor shaft was dry and thus didnt alow it to spin so if i lubricate it it should fix it?
Lubricating the motor might bring the samsung back to life, but you don't need to if you want to use the benQ.
What you need is a VIA 6421a PCI SATA card
You also need to download the JungleFlasher APP.
You can hookup the drive to the via card and dump the firmware off the Samsung drive so you can obtain the key. Once you have the key, you can flash the BENQ drive with the Samsung's key. Also you must spoof the BENQ drive to report back as a Samsung drive.. This is called spoofing. Read some of the sticky topics at the top of the page and you should be able to figure it all out. Id much rather have you do it but money is tight and me and my friend started our own small pc and electronic repair biz to help save up money for collage and we have just gotten in to the repairing xboxs, at the time i cant afford to do any thing but if i get any customers looking for this i can send u some work do you have another way i can contact you at a later date i will defiantly send any drives to you, what would you charge.
did you buy those xboxes off ebay? im guessing their like what a chop shop would do take out good drives good parts switch drives ect. Ive seen some xbox 360's on ebay for like $50-80 dollars and supposedly only have the three red rings of death but if it seems too good to be true it probably is, i bet they have been bad flashed and once the key is gone ( drive is bricked or drive is swapped) its gameover; unless you want to spend the rest of your life trying to figure out the 32 alpha numeric DVD drive key and then which drive to spoof it as, so i bet they sell them to make a quick buck, obiously your not getting a good deal once you fix the red lights, all your getting is an xbox 360 shaped dvd/cd player. Your samsung xbox 360 can be saved though since your 100% sure thats the original drive your xbox 360 came with and that it hasent been tampered with. Good luck and i hope you can revive the samsung, dont waste your time with the rest its a lost battle if you dont know the keys ( or if even the drives in them where the original drives they came with). PS2 MENACE is pretty good knows alot id send him my drives and the return shipping if i where you and didnt feel comfortable with the process of doing it yourself ( he's helped me out before with info, much appreciated Menace).
