Ok i've installed loader 1.1 and 1.5 and CIOS revision 10. I formated my 8 gig pen drive with that WBFS program that installs the ISO's and put a game on it i then put it on the wii and started the loader 1.1 and the game worked, and then i tried 1.5 and it worked. I then went on to test with my 500 gig drive, i formated a partion to 40 gigs and did the same process and it worked. so Now i increased the size of the 40 to 400 and it starts and says no wbfs partitions format one now press A and i do and then thats when i get Error -6 no partitions found. So i went back to trying with my 8 gig pen drive, had to reformat it and once again got the -6 error and it no longer works either. I've tried formatting it as fat32 and ntfs before formating it with the program to wbfs and still no go. I even tried formatting it with the USB loader program but i still get the same error.

So my question is why was it working and now its not? What am i doing wrong?

re-load your cios9 with USB loader 1.1 if it does not work try re format as FAT32 and convert as primary NOT logical.

similar case: error- 6

re-installed CIOS 9 and then 1.5 and 1.1 would come back with return -1 put rev 10 back on and both went back to -6 Formated as fat32 primary partition still does not work.

Update:

Checked waninkokos site for info on this and they said to remove the drive when the timeout 30 comes up and put it back in, doing so has gotten the 8 gig to work, but i have to do that every time i load USB loader to get it to work. I didnt have to do that before and that still hasnt fixed the 500 gig drive.

did you do this?:

"re-installed cios rev 9 (with 1.1 loader) to wii and formatted drive to fat32 prinmary connected to wii."..

If still does not work start from Cios rev8..

OK re-installed rev 9 again and formated drive to fat 32 Primary, plugged into wii and ran usb loader 1.1 and i immediately get error -1 and the same on 1.5 Like i said i can get it to work with 1.5 with rev 10 installed but i have to unplug and plug in quick. Quite annoying.

Other note I have 2 wii's i'm trying this on both of them one is 4.0 and the other is 3.2 both have the same results.

could be the drive. i'd wipe it clean to one partition again, and then repartition half of it.

Agree..format as single drive first then connect to Wii let the Wii detect don't format as WBFS.. create patition again.. put back to Wii if it detect both partition. Now do a WBFS format on one partition.

k formated it as 1 and it didnt recognize it formated it as 2 and didnt recognize it. rebooted and as it was loading i took the usb out and put it right back in and it recognizes it. showed 2 partitions, i then formated the first one and went fine ripped game from disk with wii to the drive and worked fine, played game from the USB and worked fine. Rebooted wii and went back to USB loader, once again wont recognize the USB. Rebooted again and did the remove and put back USB trick again and it recognized it and went straight to the games menu again, and once again played the game from the USB no problems. tried updateing back to revision 10 with revision 10 i can now get 1.1 and 1.5 to work with the USB remove and put back in trick but without doing that im boned. And still unable to recognize the 500 gig whatsover. (its actually about 425.)

What kind of HDD you have? 2.5 USB powered or AC External powered? might be an issue on the HDD, not getting enough power from the USB?

a single usb port is fine for a 2.5" drive. i've been using only one on mine, with a WD scorpio black drive and vantec nexstar cx enclosure. no problems whatsoever.

if you have to hotswap, most likely it's the drive enclosure.

the pen drive is just a usb reader with an 8 gig SD micro SDHC in it. and the hard drive is a 500 GB external powered Western Digital Home edition.

no one has reported compatability with the my book home edition on gbatemp. there is a problem with the my book studio; usb fails but esata works with a usb-to-sata connector.

also, switch usb ports. i've found success with the left port (bottom if you lay the wii down)

I've had the same success and fail rates with both i can get it to work with either one if i hot swap during load. I cant find anywhere about anyone else haveing my problem. The weird thing is the drive worked at first.

i had first time boot success with the vantec nexstar SX, but then it just gave up. switched to the CX, and it boots up all the time, given the drive is plugged in before the wii is turned on. and it was the same WD scorpio black drive being used.

it's the drive enclosure. that's why i always build the drive, so i can switch the enclosure if it fails. and using aluminum enclosures to dissipate the hdd heat will prolong the drive life.

still no luck tried all kinds of different methods, on both wii's and no luck im starting to think its just a compatibility issue. Maybe i just need to wait for CIOS 11 or usb loader 1.6

Problem solved bought a new 320 gig western digital hard drive and it works like a charm so it was just a compatibility issue.

OK Im a newb to this usbloader program. I have usbloader 1.0, 1.1, and 1.5. I also have cIOS36_Installer rev10, rev9 and rev8 and finally WBFSManager2.5. Im using a Imicro external 3.5" housing with a 160G WD sata HDD. OK I have installed all three versions of the loader and interchange cIOS36_Installer between rev 10 and 9 , the hard drive was formatted to WBFS using WBFSManager2.5. But like the original poster I keep get error -6 when I use cIOS36_Installer rev10 and error -1 when its cIOS36_Installer rev9. I wondering if its a compatibility issue Im having. If so I would be really depress cause I went and bought the HDD and external USB casing just for this. Anyone could shed some light as to what Im downing wrong. I hav pretty much tried everything in this current thread but still no luck I even changed the hard drive to a maxtor 320GB sata but its the same result.

start form scratch..

1) Load cios9, and used USB loader 1.1
2) Format HDD to FAT32 (low level) and as primary not logical.
3) Assign the drive letter on the HDD.
4) insert HDD to Wii,.. it is recognized then format the HDD.
- if the HDD is not detected either -1 or -6 then it could be compatibility issue with your Drive.

revision 9 with usb loader 1.1 wasnt working for me, theres not enough hard drives compatible with it, with 1.5 and revision 10 many more hard drives are compatible. I got it to work with 1.5 and 10 only never got it to work with 1.1

Also try unplugging the drive on 1.1 when it is loading up, or on 1.5 after you select usb device quickly unplug and plug it back in. If it DOES work like that then it means the hard drive is compatible but not supported yet but you will be able to get it to force it to work like that but youll have to do it every time. I tried an 8 gig pen drive a 500 gig western digital both didnt work then i got a 320 western digital and it worked flawless. I also have now purchased a 500 gig free agent (Seagate) portable drive (powered by usb) and it works.

Ok I got it working with usbloader1.5 and cios36 rev 10 and using a A-data classic ch91 250Gb external drive. I had problems with it at first but then I changed the usb cable from the usb-y connector that came with it to a regular usb cable that I used with my AT&T Tilt and it came up. Loaded Fire Emblem via the loader and its working great minus a little freezing now and then but Im guessing that is due me using cios36 rev 10 instead of rev 9. Thanks for all the help I was just having a serious compatibility issue

We're hoping all the bugs are correct in the next rev of Cios. But who knows when that will ever be.
