Hey fellow freebie and import enthusiasts,
As a hardcore MH fan, I imported Monster Hunter G and the MH3 demo which arrived today (yay) and I only have Homebrew Channel and Gecko OS 1.07b and the newer version - 1.802 which both work like a charm for my older imports but not Monster Hunter *weeps bitterly*...
I think this may be due to a japanese wii menu update that comes with the discs and I don't have internet access for my wii in order to run the app - "any region changer" which is needed to change my firmware from 3.3E (as I live in Aus)- to whatever it needs to run the disc and then update. But this is just noobish speculation on my part. Any help from the community would be greatly appreciated - thanks in advance.

i wish i knew myself, i am having the same problem but i have a backup, all the solutions are for usb loaders and backup loaders but there is no solution for modchip users at all.
i have tried geko 1.07 and it just loads to a black screen, i removed the update from the disc but i can't region fii it because it says the disc is not a wii iso, i really don't know what else to do, and the sad thing is the full game will be like this aswell so that makes me even more mad.

Yeah that is sad. I just spent all day trying to get it working to no avail and I'm throwing in the towel for now...I guess we have to be content with MHG - (just clocked up 70 hours myself) and then maybe I'll have to take further measures to play this, even if it means "backing up" and so on. Hey, incidentally what trading card came with your copy? I got an azure los! lucky!

Oh wait - you have the backup. Nevermind about the card question then. Hours of homebrew research is kinda mentally draining with no breakthroughs. :(

i found a solution to make it work, do you have homebrew channel installed?
if you do, download geko 1.9 put the files in your aps folder and then load it via the homebrew channel, select the rebooter option and then load it via the disc channel, it should load.
Slim Pstwo model no: SCPH-75003 CB (V14) Matrix infinity firmware 1.93 with custom Blue XCM case mod and lights.

unfortunately, I tried it with gecko 1.7, 1.8 and 1.9, via direct "launch game" and rebooter option then home menu, the game's brief intro music and title appears when in wii home...and then just a black screen. Are you using an import like myself or otherwise? Nevertheless, you've given me hope. Would you be able to tell me the exact settings you're running on Gecko 1.9? thanks in advance. ^_^

YAHOO! I just got it working with softmii! I installed the CIOS 55 wad thingy with wad installer a few days ago, just played around with some settings for a bit and hey presto! I'll post my settings for anyone else in need after I enjoy a few hours (maybe the whole night in hunter heaven, heheh.) Finally some beginners luck! man I love homebrew!

i'm glad you got it working, well done.
when you installed geko 1.9 you should have made sure you have cios version 10 installed, it should have worked with the rebooter option, it won't work with the launch game option.

Well I'm not too sure about a burned copy 'cos I only play imported ntsc and virtual console games(for now). However if you have updated your wii via nintendo, then the wii freeloader (which I too have) has run it's course. Enjoy your new coaster/frisbee, whatever.
Aaaanyway, to get the legit JP version working on my PAL wii, (hopefully you'll have some luck with your backed-up copy), I used Wad Manager which needs to be in the apps folder on the root of your SD card to install cIOS55.wad (a must for MH3) in a folder called "wad" - also on the sd root (sorry if you already know some of this). You will also need the HBC app - "Softchip" which should get the game running once you configure its' settings to install the cIOS55 wad or you may not if you already did that with wad manager.
Since your wii is chipped, yes? Then I can't comment if it will affect any of the processes needed to finally get the demo running, since mine is only soft-chipped. In any case, here's hoping it all goes well for you.

erm, this may be a silly question, but you do HAVE the homebrew channel installed from the twilight hack don't you?...admittedly I only know what applies to my own wii and not the greater homebrewing community...>_>

It's cool! you get G, 3 demo and the limited MHG blue classic controller too. wow - I should work for them...

Yeah you could update your wii to 4.0E. Mine's at 3.2E - with the 55 wad and softchip. Anyway I thought you were gonna buy it. If you did, at least you wouldn't have any doubts about whether you burned the disc properly which brings me to ask - have successfully got any other burned games to run? I've been thinking of a hard chip too for some time...

actually, let me just add to that. If you do go ahead with the update - don't do it via official means - that is, from a game installation, or online via nintendo's service. Apparently it will homebrew block you fully. Waninkoko has an unofficial updater for homebrew to 4.0 - just have a look around for it. I might update myself - but hey why bother, I got a good thing going with 3.2.
