problems with my 360 not being able to read disks

my 360 has ben playing up the last few days so i was wondering if anyone could help me solve my problem . My problem is when putting in my disk it will say reading then it will say open tray????.

Could try cleaning the laser or doing the pot adjustment. If all else fails replace the drive with a new one.

thanks but what sort of disk drive would i need to replace because my friends on live tell me it's a problem with the laser can you replace lasers

Yea you can replace lasers but i perfer to just replace the drive. Only costs about 10-15 bucks more but the last time I replaced the laser it didn't help and had to replace the drive anyways.
as to what drive you would need, you would need another 360 drive. Preferably a benq since they are the best drives that are readily available.

Nope. Just means you probably have a hitachi drive unless its a newer console. Which by the way are the worst drives out there for reading games.

It's rather easy. There's some videos on YouTube I imagine. But if you go with replacing the drive you have to flash it in order for it to work. But I would first clean the laser and if that doesnt help do the pot adjustment. Then for a last resort change the drive out.

I doubt ms will fix it for free usually DVD repairs are around 100 bucks. But worth a shot maybe they will let it slide thru.

If it is a Hitachi, I would take it out and throw it in the trash. Get a BenQ drive, spoof it and then you will be good to go.

MS prob wont reply for at least a day. and its fixable, just depends on how much you want to pay. i can do a drive swap for the cost of the drive (usually around 35 bucks) plus shipping costs to and from my house. (not advertising here mods, just letting the OP know where he would stand if he went this route).
