I am looking into getting a 360 for a friend but my CK3 version2 isn't working too great (the mini USB seems to have crapped out, haven't tried using the serial port on it yet though).

But from what I understand you only need the CK3 for the Lite One drives. So to make things easier I was thinking of getting an Xbox with say a Hitachi or BenQ drive.

I've looked at the jungleflasher tutorial on them both and from what I can tell it is easy.

For a virgin BenQ all I do is connect it up through SATA and power it with the CK3 (and do the half open tray), under the MK32 tab hit intro device and it should display in vendor mode, if not than hit unlock for BenQ. From there just hit read and it will save the firmware. Then spoof the BenQ 1.51 firmware with the original firmware's key and write. Can anyone tell me if I got this down correctly?

Secondly is the Hitachi drive which is also a virgin I just connected it up through SATA (is power source needed? If so could I use my CK3 to power the drive and there is no tray half open that needs to be done right?) click the Hitachi tab in JungleFlasher do I just hit "send mode-b" click the Drive Revision based on the f/w rev and make sure RAM Upload is also checked. Then make sure the drive is the correct letter and for flashing options hit "Flash iXtreme" with the Hitachi 1.51 iXtreme in the JF folder. Then hit flash the hacked f/w and it will do everything for me (and I save the OFW of the Hitachi drive).

Please, if anyone can verify if I am write on both or any flaws that would be great. I have 2 lined up to buy just debating which would be easier (less chance of screwing up).

you say ya have 2 lined up to buy so i presume you mean used xbox 360's ??

man i would really think before ya do that ... a used xbox 360 seems like such a crap-shoot to me ... it could have such issues you just don't even know about ...

are you really planning on buying one second-hand ?

Eject your tray on the Hitachi.
Send mode b, and it will close.
Wait for it to be recognized.
JF will auto choose which transfer method for you.
Check the bubble that says Flash iXtreme.
Click read to source.
Save your OFW.
JF will flash a test sector, if STABLE, you may continue.

If you have a Hitachi 79, after you send mode b, you need to insert the 79 unlock CD and click 79 Unlock. Then continue as stated above.

If you have any problems, see the JF tutorial linked in my signature.

Thanks Leerage, do I power the Hitachi drive with the CK3 set?

Would I eject it with CK3, power down the CK3, power it back on and then send mode B?

you could power with the ck3, or you could power with the console itself. if you use the ck3, theres a power switch, and an eject button on it, so that answers your other questions.
