having connection issues need help

so i have my xbox connected to my girlfriends computer and using share connection so i can connect my 360 to live. both of our computers are connected wireless to a router upstairs (roommate needs router upstairs) and for last week our internet keeps going in and out and get the little message saying out network cable unplugged then it connects again. now i understand having internet problems mean not gonna be able to get on live but odd thing is ever since this started happening i have a hard time even connecting to my girlfriends computer with the xbox. i seem to have to restart her computer ever time i want to connect the two. maybe I'm wrong on this one but even if the internet is not working shouldn't i be able to still connect my 360 to the computer? and do you think getting new router would solve some problems im having with both xbox and just connectivity to our computers?

also i have reset both the modem and router, checked with comcast, and my roommate who is connected directly to the router is having similar problems.

sounds like a router or modem problem. make sure that both boxes are not being covered by anything that would cause heat to build up. I have routers do this and act funny when they are not venting heat proberly and they get so hot they run really slow or just go out completely.

one way to test would be to directly connect a pc to the modem for a bit and see if it has the same issues, if not then it is most likely related to the router. IF you still have same problem with the modem only connected then something is up with the modem or the connection quality in general.

I worked for comcast for a while and a lot of thier techs dont know how to properly troubleshoot internet problems. mostly older techs who do not know how nor do they want to learn the newer internet and phone systems. they will hook up their meters for 15 mins and say its all good and leave. when really you have a signal or power level issue most of the time and they just dont know what to do. ..lol sorry im going off topic.. just check the modem and see if it works by itself
