A hacker by the name of "Dashhacker", has successfully reverse engineered and broken the authentication system of the PS3's remote play application.
Go Here for full details.
Basically what it means is we'll now be able to our PS3's from just about anywhere. He claims to be releasing a portable API soon..

He "claims" to have reverse engineered it,there is no proof he has done so.

This is useless, now instead of being able to use remote play on our PSPs we can now use them from "anywhere"?
How that is useful I am not sure

Im afraid not, people still hang on to every word that a new "hacker" says, people still come on the IRC server that i run asking for ISO loaders or asking if the Paradox and Ferrox loaders work.

If you find this useless, you dont understand the concept, instead of using a PSP,one in theory could use a PDA,Mobile Phone,Laptop etc to use remote play.

Oh I know that, Im just asking how remote play from any web enabled device counts as being useful. Hell I barely even use remote play with my PSP, its not exactly a major hacking milestone

Well not everyone has a PSP,so this could be usefull for them,to gain access to their PS3 whilst out of the house, there are several things they could do,with say a mobile phone.
You could access the PSN store, whilst at work or on a bus and download a game and it will be ready for when you get home.
If bored whilst on a long journey, you could use your mobile phone to watch a movie or play certain PS3 games.
There are several different reasons.

Well.. For all the Non-Believers out there and for everyone who thought this was fake.
We now have solid proof that this is real :)

There ya go. It's not much right now because it's only for Mac OSX, but he promises to be releasing the API and Windows players within a week.
Enjoy

It is pretty awesome just to know that at least somebody is trying to do something out there..
Unfortunately I have Windows so I won't be able to try it out until he releases the Windows version :(

What will this do again? Is it supposed to allow you to connect to the PS3 using any bluetooth device?

So Sony didn't even try to patch this up in the 2.76 update?

I dont see why they would, first of all you need a PSP to install it. So this will either mean borrowing a friends PSP or buying one yourself, so it'll increase sales.
Second all it does it open up the remote play for other devices, so unless Sony are felling like real tits they wont make and security changes for it.

Simply because Sony doesn't want any homebrew at all.
This is a small thing but it can always turn into something really big, somehow.

Damn it! Sony are lame hax0rs hacking at a hack! :P
And why bother? To increase psp sales? surely letting people use other devices isnt much of a threat.

Not sure, but it might be because Sony are releasing Remote Play on other devices, like a couple of the new Sony Ericson phones.

It is nice to have open remote play. I love my hacked psp. It would be nice to see this implemented on other devices like my blackberry or ipod touch.
Off topic: marcusita, I figured out my PSP problem that I was talking about the other night.

Yeah a couple of us mentioned cleaning the keys, but im not sure you seen with all the rubbish that was being spoken :p
On ORP,the firmware update isnt mandatory,so dont update, also it dosnt fully block it.
