Sorry if this is a repetitive question but I did try to search. I have an Xbox360 with Lite-on flashed with ix 1.51 firmware.
I was wondering if I'm at equal risk or perhaps a bit less/more if my intentions of going on Live is to download extra contents such as extra Halo maps or game demos.

Not entirely. Every time you go on live your gamer card gets updated with every game you played since you have been online last time and every archievement you have gotten. So these informations could also contain if you played a backup game. Going on Live always contains the chance of getting banned, but I think it's worth it.

If you create a separate username on your 360 to play games while live is disconnected, it doesn't upload your achievements, it just saves them on your offline profile.
Does this make a difference?

im pretty sure that when you get banned its your xbox 360 itsself that gets banned not your gamer tag.

why do people continue to ask this same question?.. why don't you send your details and xbox serial number to M$ and ask them?
it's the console which is banned.. completely and for ever. Guaranteed they keep alist of tags who have had consoles banned also and scrutinize those with more care than the unknowns.. once you get banned don't buy another 360 flash it and go on live.. your console life will be until the next ban wave.. guaranteed.
for the millionth time.. playing with a modded box on live will get you banned sooner or later. I have contacts high up in the M$ console division through some of my other online activities.. I know how they detect but as I don't want to lose my friends in high places I accept the rules of the game and don't tell XD .. maybe one day they will offer me a fat cat job.. who knows.. but I'm prepared to take that chance.

Nice rant. I know it is the console that gets banned...
My point is that if you play offline with a separate profile, your achievements will be saved on that profile rather than your online one won't they? When I get on Live it doesn't show my achievements from my offline profile.
So your saying it does me zero good to do it this way, I might as well just play my backups while signed in to my online live profile?

Yeah, this is why I don't pirate on the 360. Sure you can always buy a new console if banned but even if they don't ban your gamertag account, I'm sure they keep an eye on it's activity after the first ban. As an alternative to piracy, I just mainly buy older games (1-2 years old) because the prices go down by then. And considering that I don't do a lot of new/0-day piracy to begin with (I download based on what strikes my fancy at the moment, not by what just got released.), I don't have much problem buying older stuff.

I can also chime in on this. I got banned, bought a new console and flashed it day 1. Played nothing but backups on it and still haven't been banned again. As long as you rip your own copies and stealth check them with abgx (if you download), you won't get a "guarantee" ban the very next ban wave as the other guy suggested.
Proof live in me.

same here my buddy's console got banned awhile ago, he bought a new one, but hasn't been hit since. reason i know? i flash them for him. so thats not true. aparantlly they are not telling you the whole truth varnull
or they just "think" they know.

agree with the previous two posts, also have proof that its not true, my bro got banned on the original ban hammer, hasnt been banned since. also, so what if you get banned, drop the 50 bucks it costs to get a RROD, send it to MS for free repair, and you have a new second console. leave it stock, and and just play your burnt games on your banned console.

You don't have to buy a 360 new to have MS fix RROD issues for free? I was under the impression you had to be like the original owner of it to get that. Otherwise they charge you like $100 to fix it. Is this not correct?

well you're 'suppose' to be the original owner, but ive send 10+ used, already registered ones back in without any problems. just keep calling back and eventually you will get a person that doesnt care and re-register it in your name for you. the last time apu, or john as he claimed, did it the first time i called.

I think there is less of a chance of getting banned if you just download the game demos. You could always make two profiles - one for the burned games and one for downloading demos. I think downloading the Halo maps would be kind of pointless if you aren't going to play with your friends online or have people over at your house often.
In order to determine whether I want to play a game, this is what I do: look up the game on a review website, read about it, and view some gameplay vidoes. I would suggest just waiting until the game is out instead of playing the demo, if you are concerned about getting banned.

Why do people get on here and brag about what they think they "know" but yet can't share that information because it would jeopardize them.
Like you, I get tired of seeing countless posts of the same thing over. And people saying "they know how M$ bans people but can't share the information" is definitely one of them.

No one knows sh*t about the banning. All anyone knows is some get banned some don't. Every bit of information given regarding banning is best guess.
Best guess as in 'this is what i think' (says the a-hole).
Do yourself a favour and research this and make your own decisions. Then you won't get the sh*ts when ur banned and come here and abuse someone.
It's just common sense - read, read and read again everything you can.
