I resolved my connection issues with my 360 and desktop using ICS, but now when I am connected, I can start a game of say Madden or NHL, and I get disconnected from live half way through the game, and then when I reconnect to live, it just keeps constantly disconnecting me every time I try to get back on, until I either exit out to teh dashboard and run a test, or I restart the 360. I think it might have something to do with my router, I am running the 360 to my pc through ethernet cable, a wifi card in my desktop to my belkin router, router wired to my cable modem. Can anyone give me any info on what might be causing this? Router version is as follows:
Version Info
Firmware Version
F5D7230-4_US_8.00.06
Boot Version
v1.02
Hardware
F5D7230-4 v8000
Thats a lot of stuff to go through. The xbox requires a good bit of bandwidth. Mine is wired directly to my gateway and I still get disconnected sometimes. Using the ICS is kind of buggy and unreliable from my experience. Try(if you can) running the xbox Ethernet cable straight to the modem. If you don't have a cable long enough and can wait a few days, order one from newegg. You can get 25 ft cables for like $3 and 50 ft aren't much more. Much cheaper than going to the store and buying it, even after shipping.
i dunno i think it should work just fine. Before i had my own internet i would leech off someones wireless with my laptop and then go from laptop to 360 via ethernet and the wifi connection only had weak signal at 5 mbps or lower.
if anything maybe its hitting a bottleneck at the desktop with the maybe the ethernet card or the wifi card if one is not that great. have you rebooted the desktop recently? that could cause a slow down. I would make sure the dektop is in top shape and not running any prgrams that would make it slow in general even if not related to bandwidth or internet usage.

This is sort of a dunce question... but i have a 360 network wireless adapter, but my live connection sucks, so i want to connect it with wired. My console is about 10-15 yards from my gateway, so what sort of ethernet cable would i use (also where to get it).

Yeah, it can work. I have used it myself but when you are going through multiple things like that, there are a lot of places for things to go wrong.
Like you said, the computer might be a bottleneck, or it might be the router isn't up to date and having trouble, or the Wifi card. Thats why I suggested running directly to the modem if possible. At the very least it narrows down whats causing the problem.

Maybe you can try changing the channels your modem works off of(or your wireless router). Some channels pick up interference that can cause you to loose your connection. Most if not all wireless routers work on 2.4 Ghz which is what older cordless phones work off of. It could be getting interference from that, so try changing the channels or if you do have a 2.4 Ghz cordless around, try switching it out for a corded phone or a 5.8 Ghz cordless and see if it improves.
yea hooking directly will let you know if its a problem with the setup or the modem itself.
Might be easier to just get an older router used and flash it with custom fw to make it a receiver instead of a transmitter and then use that connected to the 360. would be more reliable. Or get a longer ethernet cord as wired is always faster esp for gaming.
Go to Wal-mart, go down the isle where they have the fire safes, at the end of the isle on a shelf there should be a roll of tickets, buy em, and trade them in. Just make sure you get the teenager running the prize counter that hates his job. ;-)
