I am starting a petition that I wish all of you would sign so we could send it into sony. I have had my Playstation 3 system since it came out. It broke about a year after I bought the first one. I got a refurbished PS3 system back and have had it working until the night of April 25, 2009. Now it is flashing yellow lights when it is turned on, so I called Sony. I talked to George, Jason, and a girl I didn't catch the name of. I was told that it is a ventilation problem and that I must have abused the system. I have never had my PS3 system in a cabinet or even within a foot of anything. These people were very disrespectful with me. I am tired of the way that Sony representatives handle calls. In addition, I was told that I would have to pay $150 USD to get my PS3 system refurbished with only a 90 day guarantee after that. I am starting this petition against Sony so that Sony might finally listen to the people that are keeping them in business. Please sign this petition if you agree that Sony needs to wake up! The link to my petition is in my signature. THANKS!

I am starting a petition against the way that Sony handles product issues that are obviously widespread. Please visit the link and sign my petition!

I don't mean to be rude but companies laugh at these online petitions. You would be better off pursuing other methods of getting your console fixed/replaced.

Is your current console still under any kind of warranty? I'd suggest taking a picture of where you've kept your ps3. Also the ylod isn't always caused by overheating (aka ventilation problem) as the person on the phone said, the ylod indicated hardware failure in general, it could be anything from the gpu to the hdd to the mobo.

i understand that im not going to get anywhere with this petition because i have already paid the $150 so i can sell my ps3 on ebay and get some money for it. My ps3 was on a table in open air with nothing around it. I am simply trying to help other people that are going to have this problem in the future...sorry if i offended you some how.

IF the PS3 had a 30% fale rate i would agree, but last time i checked it was less than 3%,

EDIT:

i have used sony customer service before, they were very nice and profesional to me

Your friend in nam is not lying. She has a modded PS2, and the modder was generous enough to relabel the PS2 to PS3.
Then the pirate selling games relabeled Assassins Creed 1 and called it Assassins Creed 2. This is called marketing.
Your friend is honest and thinks she plays AC2 on a PS3. In reality she is playing AC1 on a PS2.

Maybe you were unlucky and got some bad custom service but Sony can't make the PS3 perfect.

Your 1 year warranty is over and you will have to pay the price. Sony doesn't care about the petition.

Not being rude, if I was giving you that impression.

When have petitions ever worked anyways? Things only get done with class-action lawsuits.

Besides, PS3 has a very low failure rate compared to xbox360, where they were forced to provide extended warranty and fix any RROD problems no charge because of the substantially high failure rate, and they even knew it was a flaw but neglected to address the issue, and hence class action lawsuit took place and won.

Try to keep the xbox failure rate references to a minimum if it doesn't have anything specifically to do with the topic; we wouldn't want to start a flamewar or make any bad blood with the 360 section eh?

BOO 360 SUXXORZ!!!

...nah, I'm kidding. But incidentally, I actually was saying something along those lines just a few hours ago.

But I digress.

Yeah, the petition is all in good intent and all, but it has, like, almost a zero percent change of working. (And watch, tomorrow Sony sees the petition and offers free warranty extensions or something...)

Good try, though.

A petition in this case would be sorry to say useless. The PS3 in general has been a solid piece of hardware. The 360 RRoD and now "E" whatever error has become a big enough of an issue that MS recognized that the 360 had an issue.
If the YLD got to a point like the RRoD did then I guarantee you that Sony will do something for you. I know because I also own a Sony Grand Wega KDF 46E2000 46" rear projection TV. These TV's optical block were know to have issue and when enough customers reported the issue Sony did do something about. My friend got a 46" flat panel Bravia that would easily retail for $2000 to $3000 for $200 from sony for the problems he experienced with his Sony TV. Mind you his TV was out of warranty and Sony could have easily said your SOL but they did not. It was shipped next day as well. I was not fortunate enough as Sony did pay for the part for my TV which would have been I guess $1000 or more. Point is If there is a valid issue with one of Sony's products they will do something about it.

@Monty do you have warranty? try contacting sony...

@Monto i will sign just for the principal, i dont think it will but its nice to think that people agree with you on something which is a very minor problem.

My own experience with Sony have been extremely positive unlike microsoft who are all of foreign nationality.

Hope you get somewhere!

Ayame, i live for you xxx even though the sight may fade the feelings shall always remain

I disagree. Here in Australia my launch model PS3 cost $999 and lasted less than two years, for that amount of money they damn well should be perfect, or at least last more than two years...I also had pathetic customer service from Sony and wouldnt even buy an alarm clock from them after my experience
It would be easier to put it this way: Nothing is perfect.

I know that the PS3 is expensive, but Sony probably tried everything to keep the console's failure rate to the minimum.
Unlike Microsoft, only until now (Jasper models) have they actually done a real attempt at keeping the failure rate to the minimum.

What I do complain is that the UK gets Continuous Play but other countries don't.
Continuous Play is a service from Sony. You pay £5 per month and if your PS3 is ever to have any problems, you will get it fixed within 2 days.

Again, nothing is perfect. The PS3 is the second most reliable console this gen.
