Just wondered really. If most people have soft-mod, and find it acceptable like i'll do that.

Just new to Wii modding. Have myself a Xbox and modded that myself.

I soft modded my Wii. I can't think of any benefits of using a modchip over a soft mod.

Soft modding is inexpensive ($20-25 max, if you have to rent Twilight Princess and buy an SD card), you don't have to open your Wii, and you can do more things (SD/USB Loader, install WADs, other random homebrew apps).

I hard modded my Wii way before any mod was available for this console. When it was finally available, I softmodded mine also. The chip is now just a backup feature, in case I brick playing with wads.
