Okay, i know alot of people here are into modding, so i pose a question..
Are you going to be waiting and flashing new consoles for your customers/friends ect with ixtreme 1.6 when it arrives, or will you be just flashing as normal with 1.51? Is it worth the upgrade to those people who don't use the xbox for dumping games?
Whats your take on it all?

Discuss :)

1.6 has some more ss fixes but as for ripping games from it i think you are still going to have to have your console open so will probably be a bit of a pain in the arse! I couldnt be bothered to wait so flashed mine to 1.51, all is fine, i play online with it and 3rd wave games play ok so will be sticking with this for awhile!!

yes i think its worth the trouble to upgrade... even if you aren't dumping games.

wait until the official changes are announced and then i'm pretty sure the decision will be clear... if there is even 1 security related improvement then how could you not upgrade

I agree. I have 1.51 now which has been ace but if 1.6 has any security improvements I will re-flash for sure.

Personally, I would definitely update the firmware. I mean, why not? When it boasts added security and features, again, why not? When the new firmware is out, I typically wait about a day or so, and then go ahead and update.

I would do it.

need jtag help? Xbox 360 console repair? PM me or chat

The reason I was asking because my modder fell off the face of the earth, and I don't have anyone else to do it around my area, and I just wouldn't feel comfortable enough to try it on my own.

It's not that hard, but very complicated (if that's possible)... if you're not 100% comfortable with doing it yourself then i'd suggest leave it (or get a pro to mod), you can seriously screw up your 360 if you don't precisely follow the steps.

Here's the changes 1.6 will implement: -

-Strict Wave 3 compliance! hybrid (modified disks) will not boot!
-Strict drive speed compliance - 12x only for game discs!
-Support for SS V2!
-Integrated 0800 for game dumping including SS v2!
-Full support for all known game exceptions! eg ddr etc!
-One shot boot mode! - allows a one off boot of gamedisc without -stealth/partition checks (will still use stealth), use activate.iso disk -to activate each time!
-Support for easy drive key/version info cmd, same as liteon!
-Strict stealth/wave checking, one shot boot mode will boot wave(x)!

I don't know what SS V2 is, but if you're running ISOs through abgx360 before burning them, then this doesn't really offer anything worthwhile for people who just want to play games IMO. It's more strict about what it will boot, because 1.51 doesn't check the video partition at all, but then as long as you're checking ISOs to make sure the video partition is present and correct, that's not really an issue. SS V2 may be something important though - does anyone know what it is? Security sector version 2 I presume, but I don't know what implication that has on backing up and burning games.

maybe i will stick with 1.51 seeing as i dont play on live anymore.

when newer games are ripped with this new ssv2 security, will those games still work on 1.51's?
