since I have seen a lot of people bring this up lately and I have found little to nothing that is actually do-able for a linux newbie or casual enthusiat I am posting a VERY SIMPLE method for conversion.

GET HANDBRAKE!!!!

For the deb supported crowd:
http://handbrake.fr/?article=download

If you are an rpm fan I suggest going to that link, downloading the file, and throwing the executable into something in your path like /usr/bin. If that doesnt work then build it from source.

This method takes longer but is VERY user friendly and will pretty much do everything you want and them more.
